Lakeview Letter
April Newsletter 2026
A Note from the Principal
The school year is winding down and we would love for the warmer weather would be here to stay! It's hard to believe that summer will be upon us shortly.
Kindergarten students are counting down the days until their chicks hatch, 2nd grade has been learning about the economy and our 1st grade students are getting ready to go on a field trip in a few weeks to apply some of their social studies and science learning they have done throughout the year!
This is an exciting and busy time of the school year as we look to wrap up this year of learning and begin planning for next year.

Summer Reading Program
Solon Community Schools Summer Reading Program qualification letters were sent home on Friday, February 28. If your child qualified, you should have received a letter in their Friday folder. If you received a letter, please read through the information and return the permission slip indicating if your child will be participating or not, to Lakeview as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact your child's classroom teacher or Sam Brimeyer at sbrimeyer@solon.k12.ia.us.
Library News-Update!
Spring is finally here!
With the change in seasons, students are enjoying books about spring, weather, and Earth Day, along with some favorite read-alouds.
We also wrapped up reading and voting for this year’s Goldfinch Award nominees. Since August, Ms. Sarah has been sharing these books with students each week. Together, they read all 20 nominees and had the opportunity to vote for their favorite. Lakeview’s votes were submitted to the Iowa Library Association, where they will be combined with votes from across the state.
While we won’t know the statewide winner until later this month, Lakeview students cast a total of 71 votes, and our school’s winning book is… The Wrong Book!
While students can still check out books for another month or so, there are quite a few books overdue. Spring cleaning is a perfect time to search for those books hiding under beds and in backpacks. If you have any questions about lost or damaged books, please reach out to msutton@solon.k12.ia.us. Enjoy the warmer weather!
Birthday Book Club
Want to celebrate your favorite Lakeview student with a new book for their birthday? You can choose a book from this list to add to our Lakeview collection. We will add a special birthday nameplate to the book and your student will be first on the list for checkout! If you have any questions you can email the library at scsdlibraries@solon.k12.ia.us. Check back frequently as books will be added throughout the year!
