Dear Northwood Families,

Thank you so much for your incredible support during our school fundraiser! We are so grateful for everyone who contributed and for the volunteers who helped make our Fun Run event on Friday such a success. The weather held out perfectly, and our students had an amazing time running, cheering, and celebrating together!

This week, we’re excited to celebrate Red Ribbon Week, a national drug prevention and awareness campaign observed each October. We’ll have special theme dress-up days each day of the week—be sure to check out the flyer below for details! On Thursday, students will enjoy a special presentation from magician Spikey Mikey, who will share an important message about making positive choices in a fun and engaging way.

Please note that costumes are not allowed during the school day on Halloween. Students are welcome to go home after school, change into their costumes, and return from 2:00-3:00 pm for our first-ever Trunk or Treat event! It’s going to be a fun and festive afternoon for the whole family.

There’s a lot of other important information and exciting events included in this week’s newsletter—so please take a few minutes to read through everything carefully.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our students and school community!

Warmly,
Mrs. Harper

Sora online reading resource

Sora is an online reading resource located in the district's Library Resources in Launchpad. It has been offline until last Friday due to vetting all of the books through SB13 guidelines. It is now available, and parents have the option to "opt out" of particular books.

Below is a step-by-step video with directions for the Parent Control feature.

Key reminder: parents must opt out of titles in both Insignia AND Sora if they wish to restrict access to specific books.

The video and directions can be found on the Transparency in Libraries page here.

School Lunch

We have a wonderful cafeteria that serves breakfast and lunch daily. This year meals are provided at no charge to ALL students as part of the Community Eligibility Program. Click THIS link to watch a short video about what is included on the school breakfast or lunch tray and what items are an extra charge.

If your child wants "extras" beyond the regular school tray, you need to add money to their cafeteria account by visiting schoolcafe.com or sending in a check or cash.

Visitors to Campus

All visitors to campus will be required to present an ID and receive a visitors badge through the Raptor system in order to come into the building during the school day. This includes on the first day of school. We understand that this may not be convenient, but it is necessary in order to ensure safety.

School Absences

Our goal is for all of our students to maintain outstanding attendance (at least 95%).

The best way to learn is by being present at school and on time, ready to learn at 7:25 am every day! If your child needs to be absent due to illness, please be sure to send a note to school the day they return explaining the reason for the absence. Absences for illness and medical appointments will be excused with a written note. A student can have no more than 18 absences in order to recieve credit for the course/grade level.
