Rocky Point Weekly Update
April 20th-24th
Hello Rocky Point Families
This past week was a very busy week at Rocky Point Elementary. We highly appreciate everyone’s participation in our military spirit week, sending in the bus transportation forms and supporting our PTO in the Boots and Blossoms Spring Fling Thursday evening. It is such a blessing to be a part of such an involved community that supports our school! A reminder again to please make sure to mark your calendars for everything coming up during the remainder of our school year as it is a busy time and will go by quickly!
We are looking forward to seeing families at our Book Fair, Transition event and 2nd and 3rd grade performance Thursday afternoon!
Book Fair - Monday, April 20 - April 24
Our spring book fair will begin tomorrow, Monday, April 20 through Friday, April 24. Parents are welcome to come with their students in the morning from 7:00 - 7:20 or on Thursday evening prior to or during our transition event. Thank you again for supporting reading with our students!
Choose Love Presentation - Monday, April 20
Join us at Topsail High School for an inspiring presentation from Scarlett Lewis from the Choose Love Movement and discover how courage, gratitude, forgiveness, and compassion can empower students to navigate challenges, strengthen resilience, and build a safer, more supportive and healthier school community. This framework was created in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.
End of Year Assessments - Tuesday, April 21 - Friday May 1
Our students in Kindergarten through 5th grade will begin their end of year assessments with district StarMath assessments and state mClass testing beginning on Tuesday, April 21. As you have done such a great job all year, please continue to send students to school ready for learning and able to perform their best on end of year assessments. Every minute from 7:20 - 2:20 counts!
Transition Event - Thursday, April 23

Proctors Needed
We are in need of test proctors during our End-of-Grade testing window, May 8 - 20. High days of demand for proctors are Friday, May 8, Tuesday, May 12 and Thursday, May 14. Test proctors help to monitor students during our test sessions. Test sessions typically run from 7:30 - 11:30 a.m.. Please complete this form if you are able to volunteer to proctor to assist with testing during the month of May.
Ronald McDonald Pop Tab Challenge Continues
Surgery took place during spring break for one of our very own Rocky Point Elementary family members and tabs already turned in have been taken to the Ronald McDonald House in Charlotte, NC! As there will be future surgeries, please consider saving and sending in all of your tabs from soda, food and pet food cans as we will continue our efforts in collecting tabs to send to the Ronald McDonald House. Again, collecting can pop tabs supports the operating costs of providing a home away from home for families with sick children. Let’s work together to collect as many pop tabs as possible!
Sensory Sensation Event - May 2
Million Minute Reading Challenge, Read Around the Bases & Homework Expectations
Our reading challenge at RPE in conjunction with the PCS Million Minute Reading Challenge is ongoing. At the district level, “The Final Push: Race to the Finish Line” reading challenge is continuing through the end of the school year. Our team name is the Racing Reading Rams! Please continue to complete reading logs with your child or enter your minutes online as we enter this competition against other schools around our district. Additionally, if students read for a minimum of 45 minutes a week and complete their reading log, they will receive 2 tickets to go watch a Wilmington Sharks baseball game on June 1. If at all possible, please take the time to help your child meet this goal and sign your child’s paper reading log or input minutes using the google form each night. We will continue to assist them in filling out the Google Form when they go to media for specials each week if you are unable to do so at home. The PCS Million Minute Reading Challenge Google Form can be found here, RPE Million Minute Reading Challenge, and in Classlink of your child’s computer. Let’s keep reading!
Please continue to support students in completing their adaptive practice in their online Freckle program on their Chromebooks throughout the week. Please support your child in completing a total of 45 minutes at home each week in math for grades 2-5 and in reading for grades 3-5. Help guides are linked below:
