K8 Community Memo
March 9, 2025
Charger Families,
Spring is in the air, and with it comes a season full of growth, learning, and community! This past month, we wrapped up our "Enjoying the Journey of Reading" campaign, where students embraced the joy of reading through DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) times, engaging strategies, and a celebration of Dr. Seuss. Last week’s dress-up days and fun stories made for a fantastic finale! Thank you to all our staff and parents for your support in making this campaign a success.
While visiting classrooms this week, I was inspired by the dedication of our teachers and students. A highlight was visiting Ms. Toni’s class, where she led a fantastic phonemic awareness lesson. She is one of six teachers committed to strengthening reading instruction through LETRS training, an intensive program designed to deepen understanding of language development and literacy. Many teachers have shared that this training is more challenging than a college course—AND it’s making a real impact in how they teach reading!
With spring approaching, we are excited to get outside and enjoy the fresh air! Our community offers great sports and activities for all ages—even pickleball for adults! Be sure to check out the upcoming events, including our Charger Parent meeting, parent conferences, and our special Math BINGO night. We look forward to seeing you on campus soon!
Go Chargers!

WSU School of Medicine Mentor Program
8th Grade Students Complete Mentorship Program
Our 8th-grade students have successfully completed their journey in the Stevens County Mentorship Program! Throughout the year, they engaged in hands-on lab activities covering essential topics such as healthy relationships, fentanyl awareness, zoonotic diseases, vaping, and dental health.
As a highlight of the program, students had the incredible opportunity to visit WSU Spokane’s School of Medicine for a behind-the-scenes tour, further expanding their understanding of health science careers.
The Stevens County Mentorship Program, launched in partnership with WSU and local health organizations, aims to inspire rural youth by connecting them to career pathways in allied health fields. We are proud of our students for their engagement and curiosity in exploring future career possibilities!
Join Us for a Fun Twist on Parent Conferences – BINGO Night!
On March 27th, we’re bringing some extra excitement to parent conferences with a Family BINGO Night! Join us for a fun-filled evening featuring dinner, BINGO, and engaging math challenges for the whole family.
We encourage all families to attend parent conferences and then stick around for this festive event. It’s a great way to connect, have fun, and celebrate learning together. We can’t wait to see you there!

Join the Fun—Pickleball is Here!
Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, and now it's easier than ever to play right here at our school! As part of our gym remodel, we’ve added official pickleball lines, making it a great space for this exciting sport that blends tennis, badminton, and ping-pong.
The Chewelah Pickleball Club (NEWPA) has also painted lines on our covered play area and is hosting games at 8 AM and 6 PM on weekdays. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced player, pickleball is fun, easy to learn, and a great way to stay active!
Come check it out and join the fun—learn more at chewelahpickleball.club.
