Meet our Third Grade Team!

Our third grade teachers are: Dawn Neelan-Hopko, Erin Hazlett, Natalie Nhan, Susan Riebman, and Cameron Leach. Ms.Nhan grew up in Loudoun County and has returned after teaching in Charlottesville City Schools. Mr. Leach previously taught kindergarten and first grade at Weller. We are thrilled to welcome both Ms. Nhan and Mr. Leach to the Third Grade Tigers.

Requests from LCPS

LCPS is interested in getting feedback from LCPS families regarding the capital budget AND the upcoming school boundary discussions. We anticipate that Steuart Weller boundaries will be discussed at the October 28 School Board Meeting. On October 1 a message from LCPS Planning will be sent to staff and families of the schools whose boundaries are under review. The process and timeline will be outlined in that message. I have attended one meeting with another one slated for October 1. While we are seeing a lot of growth in the Weller boundary zone which stretches from Lansdowne to Ashburn to Sterling, other schools are experiencing a decline in enrollment. It is a daunting task for the School Board to balance the growth in the South district to stagnation in some parts of the North Dulles district.

Share Your Voice: LCPS Special Programs and Capital Budget Survey

LCPS is inviting families to participate in an important survey that will help shape the future of our schools. Your input Weller, is vital to planning for the future of our schools and the services we provide.

The survey focuses on two key areas:

  • Special Programs – Developing, expanding and funding innovative programs across our schools

  • Capital Projects – Identifying priorities for long-term school facility needs (such as new schools, additions, major renovations, or significant infrastructure improvements) that will be shared with the School Board over the next several years.

The survey is open from September 16–30. Parents and guardians are encouraged to take part and share their perspectives. When prompted, please enter the contact email address you have on file with LCPS.

Survey findings will be included in the FY 2027–FY 2032 Capital Budget, which will be presented to the School Board on October 28. Results will also help guide future initiatives to expand and enhance special programs across LCPS. Middle and high school students will complete the survey in school to ensure their voices are heard, too.

Thank you for helping us make informed decisions that support every student’s success.

Take the LCPS Special Programs and Capital Budget Survey, today!

Here are questions you can ask your children about what will be presented this week in their daily SEL lessons

  • K - Ask your child why they think it’s important to pay attention during different activities, for example, when listening to information or instructions, when helping out with a task, or when crossing the street with you.
  • 1 - When you need to pay attention or focus on a task at home, ask your child to suggest some ways to manage distractions.
  • 2 - Ask your child what a mistake tells them and what they can do to keep going after a mistake.
  • 3 - Ask your child to explain what happens in their brain when they practice.
  • 4 - Ask your child about their group’s plan. What is your child responsible for? How is your child helping the group stay on track? Tell your child about a time you made a plan with others and how you kept things moving forward.
  • 5 - Ask your child to share their goal statement with you and explain what makes their goal specific and challenging. Share a time when you worked on a specific goal and discuss how it helped you stay focused.

Collaborative Lion Flower Mural

Student artists in Kindergarten through 5th grade each created a petal to contribute to our Lion Flower.

We reviewed our school motto, “Each Unique, All One Family,” and discussed how each of us plays a role in making Steuart Weller Elementary a great place to learn.

These sunflowers shine golden—just like each and every student who collaborated to make our mural a success!
