PLC Summit 2023

We sent twenty BCHS staff members to Solution Tree PLC Summit February 28-March 2 for professional learning, and it was a success!

Professional Learning Communities at Work® remains the undisputed, research-affirmed process for sustained, substantive school improvement. Despite the ever-changing landscape of education, the three big ideas and four critical questions central to transforming your school or district into a PLC at Work keep educators focused on the right strategies and daily practices that get results.

The three big ideas:

  • A focus on learning
  • A collaborative culture and collective responsibility
  • A results orientation

The four critical questions

  • What do we want students to learn?
  • How will we know when each student has acquired the essential knowledge and skills?
  • How will we respond when some students do not learn?
  • How will we extend the learning for students who are already proficient?

BCHS uses the learning from training like the PLC summit to support our teacher collaboration that intentionally focuses on student learning and growth. We are happy to have another cohort of trained staff to help continue our work with collaboration, intervention, and supporting our learners!

Student Learning through Teacher Clarity

BCHS Teachers work to demonstrate clarity of learning for students through clear learning intentions and communicating success criteria to students so they know the what and why of learning and also how to be successful. Teachers collaborate on designing elements of clarity including shared course rubrics during their collaborative PLC time on Friday early release days. Our goal on focusing on Teacher Clarity is to help students be an active participant in the learning process as well as owning their learning so they can work toward growing their skills in each class!

Show that Jaguar P.R.I.D.E!

BC Jaguar PRIDE means that our Jaguars are Prepared, Respectful, have Integrity, are Disciplined, and show that Everyone is united! To ensure a safe, focused, and positive learning environment, we PRIDE expectations with students on Thursday in second period.

  • This includes our expectation that students keep their cellphones on silent mode in their backpack so students can properly engage in learning.
  • Students should be prepared with a fully charged iPad each day and any other items required for class to help with their success.
  • It is also critical that students are in class and on time to be present for learning which is critical for their success.
  • We also expect our students to be respectful of classrooms, school and personal property each and every day.

Please review our BCHS PRIDE expectations in our Student/Parent Handbook on pages 48-50. Taking time to show Jaguar PRIDE is important as we work toward our mission of providing “a safe learning environment with rigorous academic opportunities for all students to graduate as productive, responsible, and contributing citizens!”
