May Edition
A Note from the Principal
The countdown is on! With only 3 weeks of school in May, we have a jam packed calendar with lots of fun events! All dates are listed at the end of this newsletter.
Thank you to each family who helped their child raise funds for a new trophy case & gaga ball pit....we raised over $20,000!!
With all the fun events that we have prepared for the month of May, I know many of you will be visiting our campus. Please remember to follow school policies. We are a tobacco and weapon free campus. We also ask that families please refrain from checking your student out after a school event. This causes major congestion in our office and puts a significant strain on office staff.
Please remember that morning drop off and afternoon dismissal are CELL PHONE FREE times. Many drivers are coming through the line distracted on phones. We want to keep all students and staff safe, so please put your phone up when driving.
As we wrap up the school year, you will be receiving several important reports that will help you understand your child's learning, so please remember to check your child's folder/binder nightly:
1. Report cards
2. iReady For Families
3. ACAP Reading Individual Student Report (2nd & 3rd grade only)
I look forward to seeing families at our upcoming events! If I can ever be of assistance to you, please call, email, or stop by! GO FALCONS! đź’™
Sincerely,
Mrs. Fowler, Principal

FCS Tardy Policy
Parents are encouraged to make sure their children are on time for school each day. Instruction begins at 7:30 am and students are counted as tardy after 7:35 am. Please note that Class I tardy offenses are cumulative for one semester only (meaning all students begin the second semester with zero tardies). Please review the chart below.
Purchase the 25-26 yearbook using the website above or by returning the order form that was sent home with your child!
We’re excited to share that we have copies of Signatures, the 2026 district-wide literary journal for sale in our school office for $15. This publication highlights outstanding student work from across the district!
We hope you’ll consider picking one up to celebrate the accomplishments of some of our FHES students and keep a copy of their published work.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Grade Level Updates
Kindergarten
We have made it to May! We are wrapping up our Kindergarten year in Reading with long vowels and diagraphs. We will also be focusing on reading and writing complete sentences. In Math, we are focusing on measuring by length and weight.
Our Math Diagnostic will be on Wednesday, May 6. We are excited to see how much our students have grown this year. On May 11, our Relay Day will be from 9:40-10:55, we hope to see you there! We are excited to end our year in Kindergarten with some "fun days". Be looking on your child's newsletter for more information about these days. Thank you so much for helping make this year great!
1st Grade
We can’t believe May is here and the end of the school year is just around the corner! We are excited for all the learning and special moments still to come in these final weeks.
In reading, we will continue building our fluency and working hard to become strong, confident readers. We are also diving into an exciting unit about animals, where students will learn how different animals have unique body parts that help them survive and adapt to their habitats.
In math, we are beginning a new geometry unit! Students will explore both 2D and 3D shapes and learn to identify, describe, and compare them. We are looking forward to discovering all the interesting features of shapes together.
As we wrap up the year, we also have some fun days planned and are excited to make lasting memories. We will truly cherish the time we have left with our wonderful first grade friends.
2nd Grade
3rd Grade
It is hard to believe we are already at the end of the school year! We had a wonderful year in 3rd grade. We still have a few more FUN activities this month before the end of school. On May 8th, we will be going to the Super Citizen Program Closing Ceremony at Florence High School. Here we will be honoring our very own, Ms. Kim Tittle, as our Super Citizen Hero. Our relay day is on May 12th from 11:25-12:40. We hope for good weather and to see you all at this event. On Tuesday, May 19th, third-grade students will be honored at our Awards Ceremony at 8:00.
Thank you for making this a great school year. We all hope you have a wonderful and safe summer!
4th Grade
4th graders will be reviewing their reading comprehension skills while enjoying the chapter book, “Because of Winn-Dixie,” over the next few weeks. Math will also be reviewing skills through real-life problems and games. We are so proud of their hard work and focus on the ACAP!
5th Grade
Wow! We cannot believe that it is already May and that we are on the final countdown of 5th grade. It has been such a sweet year and we look forward to soaking up all of these last moments this month. In math, we are preparing for the iReady diagnostic on May 6th, and we will continue reviewing throughout the rest of the year.
In ELA, students will be finishing up their unit about "Our Planet, Our Home" for the month of May. We have learned so much about the world around us and explored our relationships with nature. We have learned why the world is green. Ask your child how the food web contributes to why the world is green. They wrote an essay on this topic and there is a very interesting connection. The also learned why bees are so important to the planet and why we should always try and protect them. We finish up this unit with learning how sometime nature is hidden and where you can find nature in your everyday life.
Be sure to look at your child's newsletter each week for all of the events coming up!
6th Grade
MATH
Our students will be actively engaged in project-based learning, bringing their skills to life through hands-on activities like our exciting Game of Life project! This experience will allow them to apply what they’ve learned in meaningful, real-world ways while building critical thinking and collaboration skills. We have truly loved having this group in 6th grade and watching their growth throughout the year. We are so excited to see them continue to thrive in middle school, and we couldn’t be more proud of all their hard work and accomplishments!
SCIENCE
Through April we studied various ways in which humans impact the environment. We put our data analysis skills to work while investigating how we use (and sometimes abuse) our land resources by producing excess garbage. Students then investigated how humans have shaped and altered water flow by building dams and how that has affected ecosystems and landscapes. We also dug into some data related to water pollution, its sources, and how we can mitigate the effects. Lastly, students explored air pollution, its sources, and ways to limit our impact on the atmosphere. Oh yeah, and they also rocked the Science ACAP!! We can’t wait to see our results.
SOCIAL STUDIES
With all of our Science standards and ACAP behind us, we will be focusing our attention on fun activities and projects related to American HIstory and/or Science that we just didn’t have time to get to before state testing. This has truly been an incredible year, and we are looking forward to a wonderful last few weeks together!
READING / ELA
As we head into the final month of the school year, we have several exciting events and activities planned to help celebrate all of the growth our students have made in sixth grade!
In Reading and ELA, students will be completing their final major project of the year: a Defining Moment Presentation. For this project, each student will reflect on a meaningful moment or experience in their life that helped shape who they are. They will choose a defining moment where they learned a valuable lesson, formed an opinion, or developed a personal belief. Students will design a presentation and share it with classmates, giving them the opportunity to practice public speaking, organization, and communication skills. This project encourages reflection and helps students recognize how experiences can influence personal growth. This will be our last major project as we wrap up the year and continue preparing students for their exciting “flight” into middle school!
