Homework
Monthly Reading logs are attached in your students Take Home Folder. Each night that they read they should record the amount of minutes and get a parent/guardian to initial.
Spelling words come home on Monday. Students should complete one page per night to practice their words.
For Math there will be problems that are circled that students must do, they are welcome to do more if they would like or if you want them to. But those are the only required problems for the night.
Each night your student should bring home their yellow folder. Please make sure they are emptying the side that says Keep at Home.
Snack and Drink Reminder
Just a friendly reminder that water is the only drink students may have in the classroom. Please also help us by making sure students are not bringing candy as a snack. We want to keep snacks simple and nutritious so students can stay focused, energized, and ready to learn throughout the school day.
Thank you so much for helping us support healthy habits and a positive learning environment! π

Academics
Literacy
This week our Phonics focus was short vowels, blends and consonant digraphs. We searched for these patterns in our reading and practiced reading words that also fit these patterns. Next week we will focus on closed and open syllables..
Writing
In writing, students will be working on an explanatory writing piece about grasslands! As we read about grasslands in our weekly reading lessons, students will learn more about this unique habitat and conduct research to gather information. They will describe grasslands, share information about the plants and animals that live there, and explain how these living things survive in their habitat. Weβre excited to see what our young researchers discover!
Math
This week we learned about mental math strategies for subtraction. We continued to use the counting on and make a ten strategies that we learned last week. Students are practicing using these strategies to solve subtraction problems efficiently and explain their thinking!
Next week, we will focus on solving one-step word problems. Students will use their addition and subtraction strategies, along with their growing number sense, to understand what a problem is asking, choose the appropriate operation, and solve it. We will also practice explaining how we know our answer makes sense.
