From the Principal's Desk

Hello Little Viking Families,

I can't believe we have reached the end of the first trimester! With that comes parent-teacher conferences next week and report cards going live on your skyward account by end of day next Friday.

Please see the flyer below about how to view grades in skyward if you are unfamiliar.

In addition to grades, our first round of attendance letters will be mailed over fall break. Any student who has been absent or tardy for 10% or more of the school year (6 or more days) will receive this letter. This is not a gotcha or reprimand, but simply a first notice to be aware that when students are late or absent, they miss important learning. If you receive a letter, it just serves as a reminder to focus on attendance at school as we move forward this year. If you get a letter and have any questions or concerns, please reach out at any time.

And another reminder to dress for the weather! See the weather watch chart below. Students go outside for recess throughout the entire year. Hats and gloves are a must in the cold months. If there is snow, students must have snow pants and boots to play in the snow.

And one final notice; Our gates have been installed, but the blacktop gate is not the expected gate. That will be replaced as soon as possible, but will be fenced off again for the time being. We were so close to having all the last ins and outs done! Thank you for your patience as the final finishes of construction come together.

Have a great weekend,

-Mrs. Scanlan

Community Engagement Series Community Engagement Series

Executive functioning skills are the “brain power tools” that help children stay focused, manage emotions, follow directions, and tackle everyday challenges with confidence. When these skills grow stronger, kids thrive at home, at school, and with peers. If you’ve ever wondered how to better support your child with things like getting started, staying organized, or managing their time, this session is for you! Join us for an engaging and practical parent event on Tuesday, December 9, from 6:00–7:30 p.m., where we’ll explore simple, high-impact ways to build these essential skills and help your child shine.

This is the first of three community engagement sessions that focus on one of the presentations from the Glenbard Parent Series. Please see the attached flyer for more information on the event.

Weather Chart Weather Chart

Please remember to dress your students for the weather! We go outside whenever possible even in the cold and snow! The district uses the child care weather watch chart below when determining if the weather is too severe for outdoor play. Any time the temperature and wind falls into the red, students will have indoor recess. Yellow we still go outside but the duration of the time spent outside is monitored. And we always go out when in the green zone!

Whenever it is actively raining, students will stay inside for recess and play.

Local Assistance Local Assistance

Dear Families,

We understand that with the recent government shutdown, interruptions to benefit programs and pay may be creating challenges for some families in our community. Please know that you are not alone and that our school district is committed to helping connect families with the resources they may need during this time.

Attached is a list of local supports that can assist with food access, meal programs, and other essential services. We encourage any family experiencing hardship to reach out and take advantage of these available resources. If you have questions or need additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact your school social workers or building administrators.

As always, our school community is here to support one another — especially during challenging times.

You can also send cash or check payment to school with your child in a marked envelope with name and what payment is for. Standard Response Protocol

Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.

In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.

Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
