Sunnyvale Middle School Art Students, taught by SMS Art teacher Laura Pappas, participated in the Trinity River Authority Art Contest this October. This year's theme, "The Future of Water," invited students to explore how ongoing challenges and emerging opportunities shape the future of water.
According to the Trinity River Authority, communities that depend on the Trinity River face long-term challenges in protecting and managing water resources. Droughts, floods, pollution, and growing demand continue to strain these systems. At the same time, innovation, conservation, and long-term planning are helping to create sustainable solutions for the generations to come.
The contest, open to students in grades 1–8 across 23 counties, drew 1,954 entries this year. Out of those submissions, two Sunnyvale Middle School students earned top recognition for their outstanding work.
6th grader Ramazan Lyatifov was awarded 2nd Place, and 7th grader Luca Benners received Honorable Mention for their creative interpretations of this year’s theme.
Join us in celebrating these talented young artists and their achievements!
