Get the most out of your touchscreen Dell Board!

This week's tech tip is for classroom teachers and anyone else in the district that uses one of our touchscreen Dell Boards.

Enter your name and password... Enter your name and password...

The Dell Board has a built-in Windows 10 computer, so it can be used 100% without any other computer or laptop plugged in. The logon name and password is set during install, and MOST teachers have kept the simple (easy to remember) passcode.

REMINDER: If you sign into Google and save your password, and your Windows passcode is easy to guess, anyone else in the room (students, substitutes, etc) can access your email and other information on the Dell Board computer.

A change to this Windows passcode is coming for the 2022/2023 school year for more enhanced security.

How to enable

Right-click the taskbar, make sure "Windows Ink Workspace" has a checkmark next to it.

To right-click on the touchscreen, hold your finger or pen down for 3 seconds. This is known as a "long press".

How to access

Select Windows Ink Workspace from the taskbar to open it. From here, you can select Whiteboard or Fullscreen Snip. (You can also select More and Learn more about pen or access Pen settings .)

--> Whiteboard <--

Whiteboard requires a Microsoft account to access. Any Microsoft account (personal or ULUSD) will work, so you can logon if you already have one.

NOTE: Beginning 2022/2023 school year, all ULUSD employees will have a Microsoft account (synced with computer and Google logins).

Whiteboard gives you a freeform canvas for real time ideation and creation. Draw, type, or add images. Stack things up and move them around. Choose your writing instrument, including a pen or highlighter. Change the size of your brush strokes even as you draw them. If your hand slips, make fixes with different erasers.

--> Snip & Sketch <--

Open Snip & Sketch and draw on whatever you're doing on your PC at that moment, or open a previous image. All sketchpad tools are in Snip & Sketch, from Stencils to line width to sharing and exporting.

Your Dell Board has multiple audio options. The Zoom camera, speaker bar, and Dell Board itself are all options in the audio selection screen.

To access the audio selection options, go to the speaker in the bottom right corner of the screen, and make sure the appropriate selection is made.

REMINDER: if using the sound bar, it needs to be in the correct "mode". The mode is indicated with the LED light, and should either be blue (for wireless connectivity), or green (for wired).

Google sync Google sync

To get the most out of our Google Workspace system, make sure your Dell Board is synced!

REMINDER: if passwords are saved or easy to guess, anyone with physical access to your Dell Board may be able to access your email, files, and other saved websites.

Sign in to Chrome

While Chrome is open, click your profile picture in the top right. If you have never added a picture to your Google account, this may be a silhouette of a person's head and shoulders.

Make sure you see "Sync is on". If you see a button to "Turn on sync...", click the button and sign in to your Google account.
