3rd Grade Swimming Lessons
Free swimming lessons are being offered by the Rec Center to 3rd graders, the upcoming sessions are, January 6 through January 16; February 3 through February 13, excluding February 11; March 3 through March 13; and April 7 through April 17; Mondays through Thursdays, unless otherwise noted. Class sizes are limited to 8 students per class. Due to class sizes and to maximize the time allowed for teaching swim classes, there are two different time slots; 3:45 to 4:15 p.m. and 4:15-4:45 p.m. Once all lessons are complete all children still in the pool will be directed to the locker rooms to change.
Rec Center registration forms and information about the swimming lessons were sent home in December; they are also available at the Rec Center. Return completed registration forms to the Rec Center. A bus will transport students from Sunset School to the Rec Center, parents will pick up their student after the lesson. Parents must pick their student up at the Rec Center NO LATER than 5:00 p.m.
Make sure your student leaves home with their swimming clothes and a towel!
From Our School Nurse
February is National Dental Health Month. Dentists will volunteer their time to visit our school to perform dental screenings for all grades. This is a free, voluntary service; they will take a quick look in your student's mouth - no treatments will be performed. A card will be sent home with the screening results. If you prefer your student does not participate in this screening, or if you have any questions please call me.

The Pillar of Citizenship
During January, our focus is on the pillar of citizenship; which the Character Counts Coalition symbolizes with a purple pillar.
What does it mean to be a good citizen?
- Good citizens do their share to help their families and communities to be better.
- They are good neighbors.
- They obey rules and laws, and cooperate with others.
- They respect parents, teachers, and others in authority.
- They protect the environment
- They stay informed about important issues and vote.
- They are responsible for themselves.
- They demonstrate good sportsmanship.
- They have a positive attitude.
Sunset Free Library
Looking for some books to read?? Consider stopping by Sunset School's free library and browsing the shelves.
Doctor's notes for absences
Parents, just a reminder about absences due to illness or doctor/dentist visits. If your student is sick and they see a doctor, please get a note from their doctor regarding their illness. This will excuse their absence from school. The same is true for a doctor or dentist appointment, a note from the doctor/dentist will excuse their absence.
Dress warmly, it's cold out there!
Please label your student's coat, hat, mittens, lunch box etc. with their name. This makes it easier to return misplaced items to the proper owner! Thank you.
