Future Pathways - Volume 3
What are PGPs and Endorsements?
Personal Graduation Plan (PGP)
What is a Personal Graduation Plan?
In LISD, a Personal Graduation Plan (PGP) is a personalized roadmap for secondary students, created in collaboration with their parents and school counselors, to help them achieve graduation requirements and plan for life after high school. It's a working document that outlines course selections, endorsements, and pathways aligned with the student's interests, career goals, and post-secondary aspirations.
PGPs are located in Skyward and can be accessed by students and families starting in middle school. Starting in 6th grade, students will use the document their interests and career goals. It is expected as students mature, improve their skills, and are exposed to career opportunities that their documented interests and career goals will change each school year. By 8th grade, it is required by the state and by LISD for students to have a planned outline of their high school 4 year courses recorded in the PGP document. In 9th grade, the 4 year plan is visited and edited for the remaining 3 years of high school.
A PGP is:
- designed to be flexible and adaptable, allowing students to adjust their plans as their interests and goals evolve.
a roadmap for graduation.
collaborative: PGPs are developed by students, parents, and school counselors.
A PGP is NOT:
- course registration/ selection
- set it stone
LISD students are highly encouraged to graduate with the Distinguished Level of Achievement with the following course requirements listed below. To review the Foundation HS plan and Endorsements set out by TEA and HB5, please continue reading and click the link listed below.

Endorsements
What is an Endorsement?
An endorsement is a series of High School courses that are related to interests or career goals your student has. Endorsements are taken as electives and do not change the required core courses that your student will need to fulfill graduation requirements. Your student will earn at least one endorsement as part of their graduation requirements.
All 8th grade students select an endorsement they are interested in before beginning High School. Students are able to choose from the following 5 endorsement areas:
Key Terms
PGP: Personal Graduation Plan
Credit: A credit is earned when you successfully complete a course of study. You must earn at least a 70% in the course and must be present 90% of the time (known as "seat time")
Endorsement: A series of High School courses that are related to interests or career goals a student has. Students choose from one of the following: Multidisciplinary; Arts & Humanities; Business & Industry; Public Services; or, STEM.
LOTE: A Language Other Than English. For graduation, a student must have two LOTE credits, and they must be from the same language. For example, students can use Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 to earn their LOTE credits, but they cannot use Spanish 1 and French 1 as their LOTE credits.
