February 14 is a half day and we have no school on February 17. Also, March is right around the corner. As you know March is reading month and we have a lot of fun activities planned. Additionally, we also have kindergarten registration and the spring music concert in March.

Smiles on Wheels and Dental Health
We are very excited to welcome Smiles on Wheels back to Anderson Elementary. We will be sending home permission forms on Monday January 13, 2025. If you are interested in having your child participate in this free program that offers dental assessments, cleanings, dental education, sealants and fluoride treatments please return the form and mark It with a yes. If this is not something you want your child to participate in, return the form and mark it no. We would like all forms to be returned to the school by February 3, 2025. We also just found out that current kindergarten students who were not screened by their dentist will need a screening from the health department. We are hoping to have them come in March and they will complete a dental screen just like they do vision and hearing screenings. Please reach out to the office if you would rather your current kindergarten student opt out of this screen.
Candy Fund Raiser
We are planning to do a Candy Bar Sales fundraiser in February. Our kick-off will be on February 5, 2025. We will send more details home very soon. Thank you for your help with this-the money the students raise will help to pay for student activities.
Attendance
While we do understand that children get sick and must miss school, we want you to know how important school attendance is to student success. Elementary students who come to school build strong habits that will help them to get to school and jobs later in life. Students who miss school also miss out on learning. Students who are chronically absent often struggle the most. At one of our most recent assemblies we recognized several students for having near perfect attendance. We are also planning some additional rewards for students who attend regularly. Please do all you can to ensure that your child comes to school!
Winter Weather
The weather has taken a turn. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you to make sure your children wear coats, hats, gloves/mittens, snow pants, and boots. Also, if you send your child in boots please make sure they have shoes in their bags to wear during the day. We try to go outside for recess whenever we can and it is important that students are dressed for the winter weather. If you are having trouble getting your child the necessities, please reach out and we will see what we can do. Thanks for working with us on this!
Popcorn Friday
Thanks to a grant from Walmart, Popcorn Friday events are free for everyone. Our next popcorn Friday is on February 28.
Kindergarten Students From Mrs. Marsh's Room Celebrating the 100th Day
Counselor's Corner
This month the counseling department is working on goal setting, executive functioning, setting goals, and believing in yourself. Classroom lessons are focused on this. Additionally, new groups include: Brighter Together-which is a six week group where first and second graders are buddied up with kindergarten students. Thank you to Mrs. Ferry, Counselor, Mrs. Howk, Social Worker and Mrs. Pierucki, Behavior Interventionist for all of the work they do!
Math Night
Math Night is coming and we are super excited. On February 18 from 4:00-5:30 PM Anderson will be hosting a math night. We plan to have Bingo, guessing games, prizes, popcorn and lots of fun. Families can come starting at 4:00 with the last bingo game beginning at 5:15. Feel free to stay for the whole time or just a few games.
Weekly Leader Program
We continue to recognize students who are being leaders. We are excited about this program and hope to recognize all of our students who demonstrate leadership qualities throughout the year.

Comic Books
Ms. Bowerman's second grade class completed a writing unit where each student wrote and illustrated their own comic books. This was a great hit!
Responsibility Room
Responsibility Room is a program we use to help students rethink some of the behaviors that have gotten them into trouble. We run it during part of our recess. Students who are referred to the responsibility room will spend time in restorative practices and rethinking their choices. We are excited about this program and hopeful that it will help our students make sound choices.
