ACTION ITEM: UPDATE 5:10 PM

We are sharing with you that there was police activity near Mayfair High School at the close of the school day as well. The police were detaining a community member who was acting irrationally across the street on Woodruff. Many of our students had left for the day, but there were several students in front of the school waiting for rides.

As a precaution, we brought our students in the front of the school back onto campus for parent pick-up. As parents arrived, they provided the student's name to a member of our Administrative Team. We utilized our district walkie talkies to call those students out for pick-up.

The incident cleared and police left the scene. Once the police left, we allowed students to wait in front for pick-up. Thank you to the parents who were patient! This allowed us to keep our students away from potential danger.

I would also like to thank all of our staff members who assisted in both the morning and afternoon situations. The security team did a fantastic job of jumping into action right away!

We are sharing with you that there was police activity near Mayfair High School at the beginning of the school day. The police were detaining a community member who was acting irrationally near the campus.

As the situation developed and received more details, we decided to take action to ensure the safety of our students and staff. As a precaution, we activated our emergency protocols that included "sheltering in place" for our students and staff.

When we activate this protocol, we ask that students remain inside their respective buildings and limit outside of the classroom activities. Student who were in PE and outside were directed to the gym. During Shelter in place, we limit access to the campus and we continue teaching and learning.

We were in shelter in place for approximately 30-35 minutes. We are now back to a regularly scheduled day.

I am so proud of our students and staff as this happened very quickly.

We are working to obtain further information and will be sure to update our community on any pertinent details.
