Our Learning Community...
In observance of Labor Day on Monday, we want to take a moment to recognize and appreciate the contributions of workers in our communities who help make our schools, neighborhoods, and country stronger. We hope our Jones families enjoy the long weekend as an opportunity to rest, spend time together, and recharge.
As we enter the fall season, we also want to recognize the many traditions and celebrations that are meaningful to our Jones families. We extend warm wishes to those in our community who will be observing the upcoming Jewish High Holy Days, including Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We are grateful for the diversity of traditions, cultures, and experiences that make our Jones community so special.
Last week our Art Studio with Mrs. Schwartz and Mrs. Noble started the first art cycle of the year (check out the photographs below) and this week we are excited to launch our Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) rotation! Our first of six arts rotations begins this Thursday, giving our Dolphins the opportunity to experience high-quality, standards-based arts instruction throughout the school year. Through the Arts Education Project, students participate in rotating arts experiences while their teachers engage in collaborative professional learning. Students will have opportunities to explore different forms of artistic expression, build creative skills, and learn through the arts.
School Leadership Ambassador and Student Council applications are coming home! We are so excited to see our Dolphins step up and consider taking on a larger leadership role at Jones. We hope families will encourage and support our student risk-takers as they complete their applications and put themselves forward for an opportunity to serve our school community. Applying for a leadership position is a valuable experience in itself. It gives students an opportunity to practice setting goals, sharing their ideas, reflecting on their strengths, and putting themselves out there, even when they may feel a little nervous. Most importantly, wanting to contribute more to our school community is something to be proud of!
We are also excited to offer a series of Family Workshops this year and math will be the focus based on feedback from our families. These workshops are designed to give you a closer look at the learning happening at Jones and provide practical ways to support your child at home. Our final family workshop will be Year 2 of our Peace, Love & Kindness March! This was one of our families' favorite events last year and we are thrilled to continue this new Jones tradition. Together, we will celebrate kindness, community, and our ability to be positive change makers.
Don't forget to join us this Wednesday from 4:00–8:00 p.m. at the Mission Valley Chipotle for a 5th Grade Fundraiser! 25% of event sales will be donated to support our 5th grade activities, including promotion. We’d love your support! Check out the flyer below for all the details, and please share it with your friends, family, and neighbors so we can make this a great fundraiser for our 5th graders!
Also join us this Friday at SkateWorld for our PTA Skate Night! Bring your family, lace up your skates, and come enjoy an evening of fun, laughter, and Jones Dolphin spirit. We hope to see you there!
Save the Dates...
Free Child Safe Kits...
We are grateful to have Dolphin parent Mark Diaz helping connect our Jones Elementary community with valuable child safety resources. Check out the flyer for information about Child Safe Kit, which can help families keep important identifying information about their children readily available if ever needed.
If you are interested in learning more or receiving a kit, scan the QR code on the flyer to connect with Mark Diaz and get additional information.
Highlights From Last Week...
Students are learning that what makes each of us unique is something to celebrate! Through counseling lessons on diversity, students are building understanding, empathy, and respect while learning how to create a school community where everyone feels valued and belongs.
Our Dolphins are diving into new adventures! Students are enjoying time in our library, exploring books, selecting books to check out, and building a lifelong love of reading.
Safety Patrol training continues as our student leaders learn to work together in service of our community. Through teamwork, responsibility, and a commitment to keeping others safe, our Dolphins are putting leadership into action!
Our Art Studio opened this week, and our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Dolphins are the first to experience this five-week art cycle. Each week brings a new opportunity to explore, create, and grow as artists!
Retired teacher Mrs. Schwartz and Mrs. Noble lead engaging art lessons while classroom teachers support students as they experiment with new techniques, ideas, and ways to express themselves.
The creativity continues all year long! After the current five-week cycle with 3rd–5th grade, our TK, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade artists will take their turn in the Art Studio.

PTA Spotlight...
The Jones PTA plays a crucial role in fostering strong family engagement at Jones Elementary. By organizing activities that bring families, students, and staff together, the PTA helps grow a stronger sense of belonging within our school community. These events not only strengthen relationships but also empower families to be active participants in their children's education, enhancing student success and building a supportive, collaborative school environment. Thank you for the leadership of our PTA Executive Board members, the volunteers that plan and execute PTA events, and all of you who participate! Check out what our PTA is up to...

Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur
Did you know that just 15 minutes of reading each day can make a world of difference in your child’s learning journey? Whether you are reading to your child, reading together, or listening to them read aloud, it all counts and it all matters!
Reading at home builds more than just literacy skills. It strengthens vocabulary, improves comprehension, and develops a lifelong love of learning. In fact, children who are read to daily are exposed to 1.4 million more words by the time they start school than children who are not. That kind of language exposure lays a strong foundation for both academic success and confident communication.
Just as importantly, books also help children grow socially by allowing them to step into other people’s experiences, see the world from different perspectives and practice empathy and kindness. Stories have the power to spark cultural awareness, build understanding and nurture the skills that help our students become not only successful learners, but also compassionate human beings.
Here are a few ways to make reading a special part of your routine:
Choose a cozy time and space to read together
Let your child pick the book (even if it’s the same one again!)
Ask questions about the story to boost comprehension
Model a love for reading by enjoying your own book nearby
The best part, your family has access to an endless amount of books through the internet and the Public Library. Looking for something new to read? Check out the links below for inspiration...
