Message from Ms. Lahey
Greetings Hembree Families,
We Did It! 🎉
Georgia Milestones Testing is officially complete! A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who ensured their children arrived on time and ready to do their best. I’m incredibly proud of our students and the effort they put into their work.
Next up: Students in grades 3–5 will take their end-of-year iReady diagnostics on Monday, May 12 and Tuesday, May 13. After that, we’ll shift into a fun and engaging end-of-year experience filled with meaningful activities.
Carpool Challenges 🚗
As we near the end of the school year, we know everyone is feeling a bit tired—parents, students, and staff alike. Lately, we’ve had a large number of cars arriving at the same time in the morning, which is causing delays.
Please remember:
Carpool staff are on duty until 7:35 AM.
After 7:35, staff must head to class to be ready before the final bell at 7:40 AM.
If you arrive after 7:35, please park and walk your child to the front door.
I personally greet students at the front door each morning to ensure they enter safely without needing to ring the bell. I understand this may be frustrating, but student safety is always our top priority. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Happy Mother’s Day! 💐
Wishing all our amazing moms a joyful and relaxing Mother’s Day! I hope your families spoil you with love and appreciation. I’ll be spending the day with my own mother and my three children—these moments are precious, and they pass by so quickly. Let’s all take time to cherish them.
Join Us Tonight! 🎉
We hope to see you this evening at our End-of-Year Picnic at Hembree Park from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate the year together as a community.
The PTA is still looking to fill two positions on the board. We are in need of a communications chair and a business partners liaison. If you have been looking to get involved, this is a wonderful opportunity.
I hope you all have a great weekend!
Best Regards,
Nancy Lahey

Send us the cutest baby photo of your 5th grader along with a current photo from this year. Please be sure to include your child’s name and homeroom teacher as well.

Clinic News
Dear Parents,
As the school year winds down, we request that you plan to pick up any medication or supplies your child may have in the school clinic. All medications (prescription and over-the-counter), must be picked up by May 23th. Any medications not picked up by May 23th will be discarded as we cannot keep medications over the summer.
In the event your child requires medications for next school year, please remember to fill out a Medication Authorization Form. Provide the Medication Authorization Form and medication to the school clinic when school begins in August.
Please Note: All prescription medications MUST have a Doctor’s signature in order for the clinic staff to administer the medication. All medications MUST be in an original labeled container with a current expiration date.
Please notify the clinic if your child is planning to attend summer school and will require medication or has healthcare needs such as diabetes, asthma, seizures, allergies. Medication forms and/or health care plans are required during summer school.
Thank you.
Counselor's Corner
1. End-of-Year Stress & Transitions
May can bring excitement and anxiety. Help your child manage stress by:
- Keeping routines consistent
- Talking about feelings openly
- Encouraging healthy sleep, eating, and physical activity
2. Celebrate Growth
Take time to reflect on your child’s progress this year.
Ask them:
- What are you most proud of?
- What was something hard that you overcame?
- What goals do you have for next year?
3. Prepare for Summer Structure
Start planning now for a healthy balance of fun, rest, and learning:
- Look into camps, library programs, or community events
- Encourage regular reading and screen-time limits
- Maintain some daily routines (wake-up/bedtime)
4. Social Connections
Summer can feel lonely without school friends. Help your child stay connected:
- Arrange playdates or group outings
- Teach and model social skills like including others and resolving conflicts
5. Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Talk with your child about mental wellness:
- It’s okay to ask for help
- Everyone has big feelings sometimes
- Listening and being kind matters
6. Final Reminders
- Return all school materials (books, devices)
- Check the lost and found
Communicate with your teacher/counselor if you have any final concerns

Fill Out Our LAST Survey!
HELP!! Our PTA School Of Excellence designation rides on parents' feedback. We need YOU to tell us how we are doing as a PTA and a school. This is the last survey we'll ask you to do this school year.
A "School of Excellence" designation, often awarded by organizations like the National PTA, is significant because it signifies a school's commitment to improving student outcomes, fostering strong partnerships between the school, parents and the community, and driving positive, long-term change. It essentially highlights schools that are actively working to create a richer, more engaging and supportive learning environment for all students. We are proud to have this distinction at Hembree Springs and want to keep it going!
Can you take 5 minutes to answer the questions linked below? We have just 16 surveys filled out in English and none in Spanish.
Thank you!

Beanstack Reading App
Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!
