The Weekly Buzz
From Palmer River Elementary School
May 29, 2026
Dear PRES Community,
Although this week was a short one, we still filled it with learning and fun! Tuesday brought a visit from the Barn Babies for our Kindergarten and PreK students, as well as several field trips for students in grades two and three. Friday concluded with a special visit from author and illustrator Peter H. Reynolds. Students were thrilled to hear about his journey to becoming a successful author and illustrator.
We also extend special thanks to our PTSA, who made Mr. Reynolds’ visit possible. As an added treat, the PTSA selected and purchased 650 Peter H. Reynolds books to distribute to our students, ensuring that every PRES student receives a brand-new book to kick off summer reading!
Additionally, thank you to our fourth graders, who warmly welcomed Commissioner Martinez, local elected officials, and Superintendent Runey this afternoon and helped us showcase the incredible learning happening every day at Palmer River Elementary School. We are so proud of our school and our students, and we truly appreciate Commissioner Martinez taking the time to visit PRES. We look forward to sharing pictures soon!
Next week brings even more exciting events and activities as we begin winding down the school year. We are looking forward to many more memorable moments together in the weeks ahead.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kristine Kefor, Principal & Mrs. Cassey Monte, Assistant Principal

Classroom Visits to Prepare for Fall
In the coming weeks, as we prepare students for the end of the school year, students will visit the next grade level classrooms to see the learning spaces, meet the teachers, and begin preparing for the transition to a new grade. We find that these visits help students feel supported, comfortable, and excited about the start of school in September.
Bus Transportation Form for 2026-2027
Every year, we ask families to complete a form for Bloom Bus Company to help determine transportation needs and assist in designing bus routes for the upcoming school year.
Please use the link provided to complete the 2026–2027 bus information form. There is one question on the form that families may not know the answer to—it asks for a Student ID Number, which can be found in the Aspen portal. This number is also referred to as the LASID (Local Identifier).
This form collects the information required by Bloom Bus Company. We ask that ALL families planning to utilize bus transportation next year complete the form by June 15, 2026. Students who are entering Kindergarten in the fall do not need to complete this form, as this information is collected as part of the registration process.
Thank you for your attention to this important request.

Uprise in Gastrointestinal (GI) Bugs – What You Need to Know!
We have seen an increase in gastrointestinal (GI) illness cases, including stomach aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These illnesses can spread quickly in schools, so please follow the health precautions to help prevent their spread.
Keep your child home if sick: If your child has vomiting, diarrhea, or fever, please keep them home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours without medication. If a child is dismissed from the nurse for GI issues, they must stay home the next day from school. This absence will be excused.
Hand washing: Please remind your child to wash their hands frequently, especially after using the bathroom and before eating. Proper handwashing is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs.
Disinfecting: Our school staff cleans and disinfects frequently touched surfaces daily, but it’s always helpful to ensure your child practices good hygiene at home and school.
If your child is feeling sick or showing symptoms of a GI illness, please don't hesitate to contact me for further guidance.
Physicals Needed for 4th Graders
This is a quick reminder for families of our 4th-grade students: I’m still missing over half of the required physicals that need to be submitted for your child to transition smoothly into middle school next year. These physicals are essential as they help ensure that our students are healthy and ready for the physical demands of middle school, including sports.
Please submit your child’s physical exam form as soon as possible. You can email or bring the form to the nurse.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community healthy! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly at eferreira@drregional.org
Wishing you all good health and a wonderful spring season!
Kind Regards,
Elizabeth Ferreira, RN, BSN, SNT

BMS Presents The Wizard of Oz!
Earlier this week, our students were treated to a visit by the cast of The Wizard Of Oz from Beckwith Middle School. Their production goes live on Friday and Saturday at 6pm! Tickets are available at the door.
Grade 4: Music Selection
As Beckwith Middle School begins planning for next school year, they need to know your child’s preference for a music elective. Students in Grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 may choose to participate in Band, Chorus, or General Music.
Please click Here to indicate your child’s preferred elective for the 2026–2027 school year. Please note that students who select Band are required to purchase or rent an instrument.
For scheduling purposes, the selected elective is considered a one-year commitment.
