BWMS Family Update

6th Grade Dance Tonight
BWMS Families,
Now it is time for the 1st School Dance for our 6th Graders. DJ Matt Ryan play some good tunes from 6:30 - 8:00 tonight Friday 9/12/25 and the kids will have a great time eating snacks from the concession stand. School Dances at BWMS are limited to our students and chaperoned by school staff. The cost is $5.00 at the door. Entrance will occur from the Athletic Entrance at the side of the building and student pick up will be according to the designated grade-level parking lot (please see below). We will encourage student pick up to enter from S Old 3C and exit on Letts Ave and for parents to park in the grade assigned parking lot which is the lot in front of the school. Please note that this event is for BWMS Students Only and casual dress is encouraged. In addition, all school rules continue to apply at the dance. We look forward to our students enjoying this event.
Have a great day and Go Eagles!
Sincerely,
Mr. Josh Frame

8th Grade - DC Trip Meeting - 10/9/25
Our team is finalizing the details of our Washington D.C. trip in May for our 8th grade students. There will be an informative meeting on October 9th at 5:30 in the BWMS auditorium. We are looking forward to sharing the itinerary, cost, and other details at this meeting. Also, the Big Walnut Middle School website will be updated with information as it becomes available.
School Attendance Update
Regular school attendance is one of the most important factors in a child’s academic success. When students are present each day, they build strong learning habits, keep up with classroom instruction, and stay connected with their teachers and peers. Consistent attendance helps prevent learning gaps, reduces stress from trying to catch up, and sets the foundation for responsibility and success beyond school.
Schools are required to take action and encourage intervention strategies for attendance for any student that
misses the following with or without a legitimate excuse:
• 38 or more excused/unexcused non-medical hours in a school month
• 65 or more excused/unexcused non-medical hours in a school year
If your child reaches one of the above thresholds, it is considered excessively absent from school. A doctor’s note or excused absence with Professional Documentation will be required for any absence to be counted as excused, unless otherwise approved by a district administrator.
BWMS Art Club is Starting
BWMS is excited for 6-8th grade art club this year. The purpose of art club is to give students a chance outside of class to work on art. Art club began on Wednesday 9/10/25 from 2:15 PM - 3:15 PM. Art Club will meet most Wednesday afternoons. All parts of the application must be filled out to be considered to be a part of the club. A student must also be able to be picked up by a parent/guardian or walk home at 3:15 PM. Please reach out to Mrs. Briant at ericabriant@bwls.net or Mrs. Butler at haleybutler@bwls.net with any questions.
