Vanessa Guingue

Vanessa Guingue, a dedicated and talented student, has made an unforgettable mark on her high school career both on and off the court. Vanessa has been a part of the CCSL family since the 5th grade. Throughout her years, she has built countless memories, but one that stands out is the time her classmates played Among Us during online school an experience that brought them all closer together despite the distance.

A gifted photographer, Vanessa has spent time capturing athletes in action, combining her love for sports with her artistic eye. A fun fact about her? She’s left-handed and has a twin sister! However, her most remarkable accomplishment is on the basketball court, where she has played on the varsity team all four years of high school. Her favorite moment? Making history by becoming the first female and first athlete to hit 1,000 pointsβ€”a milestone that will be remembered for years to come.

As Vanessa looks ahead to college, she remains undecided on her major but knows one thing for sureβ€”her future will be rooted in sports. With her passion, determination, and talent, there’s no doubt she’s destined for success. The CCSL community wishes her the best as she takes on this exciting new chapter!

Anna Higgins

Anna Higgins, a determined and ambitious student, is making her mark as she prepares to take on the next chapter of her life. A proud first-generation college student, Anna carries the dreams of her Cambodian, Irish, and Italian heritage with her as she steps into her future. She has been a part of the CCSL community since the 5th grade, cherishing the friendships and unforgettable moments that have shaped her high school experience.

Among the many things that make Anna unique, a fun fact is that she’s allergic to jackfruit. An athlete at heart, she has competed in track and hopes to push herself even further this year, aiming for first place in upcoming competitions. Looking ahead, Anna plans to stay in Massachusetts, where she envisions building the dream life she has always wanted.

When reflecting on her graduating class, she describes them as the generation that will determine the future, embodying strength and resilience. Class of 2025 in a single color? Lavender a shade that represents grace, ambition, and a bright future ahead. The CCSL community wishes Anna the very best as she steps into this exciting new journey!

Reyshels Pena Manzueta

Reyshels Dellys Pena Manzueta, a passionate and thoughtful senior, has made a lasting impact during her time at CCSL. Originally from the Dominican Republic, Reyshels joined the school as a freshman and quickly found a home within its welcoming community. Her favorite memories stem from last year’s AP Spanish class, where she not only expanded her knowledge of different cultures but also experienced a sense of belonging alongside her classmates.

With a deep love for literature, Reyshels immersed herself in the creative writing class during her junior year, where she found joy in expressing her thoughts and imagination through storytelling. Though she never participated in sports, as she prepares to graduate, Reyshels expresses heartfelt gratitude to her teachers, especially those in English, Spanish, and history, for their unwavering support throughout her academic journey.

Looking ahead, she plans to stay in Massachusetts for college but move farther from her current surroundings to embrace new opportunities. If she had to capture the essence of her graduating class, she would compare it to the movie Freedom Writers (2007), symbolizing resilience and unity, and the color yellow, representing brightness and hope. As she closes this chapter, Reyshels carries with her the warmth and familiarity of CCSL, a place that reminded her of home. The school community wishes her the best as she steps into her future with confidence and creativity!

ST Math Success Stories

By: Nicole Palmer, K-5 Math Curriculum Director (npalmer@collegiatelowell.org)

ST Math has been helping our K-5 students by supporting what they are learning in their day-to-day curriculum. This program has helped our students grow tremendously on their Math MAP exams, as well as, Math assessments in the classroom. We have seen so much growth this year.

This past week, on ST Math, the overall Puzzle Goal Progress percentage needed by 03/28 was 62%, for a goal of 80% by the end of the year. Overall, K-5 students are already at 80%, projected to be 97% by the end of the year! Hitting 80% was our goal for the end of MAY! Grades K-5 students have completed an overall 9,618 Objectives, and 1,061,039 puzzles so far this year! It is really showing to be helping the overall math learning in the SAVVAS content, as teachers now have the option of making ST Math follow the curriculum to engage them more.

170 students (out of 592) in K-5 have already completed their Puzzle-Goal Progress on ST Math and are now working on enriching their math skills by either: working on Bonus or Challenge ST Math problems or are even up higher grade levels to challenge them further. Here are photos are them:

Our most-current Challenge was MARCH MATHNESS! This occurred all of the month of March. Students have been competing class-against-class, by completing the most puzzles each week to move up in the bracket! It has been a fun and exciting way to keep the students engaged in their math work! Our winners were...

  • 2C – Mrs. Smith’s class!

Congratulations 2C! This class will win a special prize for completing the most puzzles out of all the classes K-5. Way to go!

I could not be prouder of the teachers that we have, and the students for working so incredibly hard every day. There will be raffles for the classes who did not win the competition, so stay tuned for next month’s Newsletter to see who won each raffle!

Growing Green: Environmental Alliance Club Inspires Young Scientists

By: Dr. Kritika Maheshwari, K-5 STEM Curriculum Director (kmaheshwari@collegiatelowell.org)

Our STEM Lab recently came alive with excitement as high school students from the Environmental Alliance Club visited 3rd–5th grade classes to lead an engaging discussion on caring for our community garden. The club members spoke about the importance of keeping our environment clean by addressing pollution and littering while also highlighting the scientific behaviors essential for maintaining a thriving garden.

This visit was an incredible opportunity for our younger students to learn from their older peers and prepare for the upcoming spring season. As we gear up for planting, students now understand not just how to care for and weed the garden but also why these actions matter for the health of our plants and the environment. The hands-on guidance from the Environmental Alliance Club has helped build a stronger sense of stewardship and responsibility in our students.

With planting season just around the corner, we look forward to seeing our young scientists put these lessons into action as they nurture and harvest from our school’s garden!

Freshman Field Trip

Last Friday, March 28th, freshmen students had an amazing opportunity to take a trip out to Boston to walk the Freedom Trail. There, students were able to visit many landmarks that made America what it is today. Thank you to the amazing tour guides, Mr. Mandel and Mr. Nick for educating the students about what life-changing history they were standing in. Also thank you to the amazing teachers who came along. Mr. Como, Ms. Cocci, and Mrs. Carolina!

Youth Art Month

Youth Art Month (YAM) is celebrated nationally each March since 1961 to highlight some of the amazing teaching and learning happening in visual arts education across the United States and to promote the understanding of visual arts as a critical factor in the total education curriculum that develops citizens of a global society.

In Massachusetts during the month of March, MAEA annually sponsors a Statewide preK-12 YAM Exhibit of student artworks submitted by art educators in public, private, and independent schools from across the state. There are also regional and district wide YAM exhibits, as well as school-based exhibits and events throughout the year celebrating Art Education.

Tara & Erin & I have chosen some wonderful art for the exhibit to represent Collegiate Charter, you can view it at this link under Lowell. Youth Art Month 2025 - Massachusetts Art Education Association. You will see artwork from our elementary, middle and high school artists. They have been working really hard practicing their skills and developing as artists this year!

You can even share a fan letter with the individual artists! It would be wonderful if you could take the time to view the art and send a message to some of the artists!
