From the Principal... Matt Clark From the Principal... Matt Clark

Good afternoon Thompson families. It has been another great week at Thompson Middle School, and I continue to be impressed by the way our students are settling into the school year. We are seeing students build new relationships, navigate new routines, and demonstrate the kindness, responsibility, and respect that we expect from our Thunder community.

A special thank-you goes to our Thompson PTO for putting together an incredible 6th Grade Social Kick-Off (pictures below). It was a tremendous success and gave our newest Thunder students an opportunity to connect, have fun, and begin building the relationships that will make Thompson feel like home. We appreciate the time and energy our PTO puts into creating these experiences for our students.

A Note about Lunches

We recently implemented a new cafeteria seating structure, and I want to provide some additional context after hearing questions and feedback from families. During the first week of school, students were informed that they would select a table where they would sit for the remainder of the first quarter. This structure is common in middle schools, including Wredling MS, and allows us to create a more manageable lunch environment. This will also help us work towards getting students outside for part of their lunch. Designated tables give us a system for sending smaller groups of students outside safely rather than having an entire lunch period outside at once.

Students will have an opportunity to select a different table each quarter, and we will make individual adjustments when circumstances warrant. Students who need to make a change can speak with their counselor or an administrator in the cafeteria.

Curriculum Night

A reminder that Curriculum Night is next Wednesday, August 26, from 6:00–8:00 PM. This is an important opportunity to meet your child's teachers, learn more about the curriculum and expectations for the year, and better understand your child's experience at Thompson. Additional information is included below.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we begin what is shaping up to be another outstanding year at Thompson. Every student is writing their own story this year, and we are excited to be part of it.

Dr. Matt Clark

🧮 Mrs. Zitella's Math Corner 🧮 Mrs. Zitella's Math Corner

iReady…

This week, our students completed the i-Ready Diagnostic in both reading and math. The diagnostic is not a test that students pass or fail. Instead, it provides valuable information about each child’s strengths, the skills they have mastered, and areas where they are ready to grow.

Teachers use this information to plan instruction and provide personalized learning opportunities that meet students where they are. i-Ready lessons provide targeted practice in areas where students may need additional support, while also offering opportunities to strengthen skills and take on new challenges.

Each trimester, students will be reassessed to measure their growth across four mathematical domains: Number and Operations, Algebra and Algebraic Thinking, Measurement and Data, and Geometry. This ongoing progress monitoring allows us to celebrate students’ growth and identify areas where additional instruction or practice may be helpful.

Thank you for being a part of your child’s educational journey! And, if you need to hear this today, here you go: It is going to be a great year! There may be challenges along the way, but challenges are opportunities to learn, grow, and become stronger. We are in this together, and we’ve got this!

Help Us Collect ONE MILLION Pop Tabs!

We’re on a mission to collect one million pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities, and we can’t do it without YOU (and your grandparents, cousins, neighbors, and carpool crew)!

Those tiny aluminum tabs from soda cans, soup lids, or sparkling water may seem small—but when we collect them together, they add up to real support for families with seriously ill children.

Here’s how to pitch in:

  • Save your pop tabs at home—and ask your grandparents, cousins, friends, and neighbors to do the same!

  • Bring them to school all year long.

  • Every tab brings us closer to our 1,000,000-tab goal!

Let's pull together and make a difference!
