Thanksgiving at FHS
Quarter 2 π¦
ππ𧑠Ferguson Friends-Giving π§‘ππ
At FHS, we believe gratitude is something to be shared all year longβbut Thanksgiving gives us an extra special reason to pause and celebrate. Our annual FHS Thanksgiving Lunch is a cherished tradition where students and staff come together to slow down, connect, and enjoy each otherβs company before heading into our week-long break. This gathering has become one of the highlights of our year, reminding us of the strong community we share. From our family to yours, we wish you a joyful and restful Thanksgiving!

World History and Geography:
We finished up our unit in the middle ages, where students did a Crusade stations assignment and created a Bubonic Plague survival guide. Students compared and contrasted Middle ages European Knights and Feudal Japanese Samurai. We are now beginning a Unit on the Age of Exploration/Renaissance. We will read about Various explorers and student's will choose one to focus on and then we will learn about Ren artist, Machievelli, and the Protestant Reformation.
Psychology:
We are finishing up a project on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. A few are starting a new unit on the DSM-5 (book about mental disorders). Students will have a choice board research assignment where they have to learn about three different Mental Disorders of their own choosing.
Sociology:
We just recently finished our counter culture unit and many students are still presenting on their Cult research project. We are also in the process of beginning our Social Movement unit where students will pick a social movement of their choice, research it, and create the anatomy of a social movement. Once completed, they will analyze the characteristics and determine if it has achieved its goal or not and how it affected or affects society.

Modern America:
Students are working their way through the twentieth century as we close Unit 3: Return to Normalcy & The Great Depression. We will learn about the New Deal before spending the remainder of the quarter on World War II. Students are building their historical empathy and source analysis skills every day!
Civics:
Second quarter is all about the three branches of government! We just wrapped up a unit about the Legislative Branch, and are now onto the Executive. A recent activity included viewing 10 influential presidential campaign ads and determining why they were effective.
Contemporary Issues:
We are building our nonfiction reading and research skills as we explore the roles of individuals and groups in shaping public policy. We are paying special attention to the impact of technology and media on civic engagement. Student voice and choice is welcomed in this unit as we do mini-lessons on current world issues as requested!

πStaff Led PDπ
This year we have began implementing staff-led professional development during late start meetings on Wednesday mornings. This has allowed us to learn from each other, perfect our craft, and try some new things in our classrooms. Staff sign up voluntarily and and put together a 20-30 min presentation that supports our instructional model. We are lifelong learners at FHS and constantly looking for new ways to become better educators for the students
we serve. So grateful for our team at FHS π€ π€

ITS Updates
Securly
With school breaks on the horizon, it is a great time to have information about Securly Home to help support families with Chromebook management at home.
Securly Home gives families a view of their childβs online activity on district devices. The app sends real time alerts for flagged activity, provides weekly activity summaries, and allows parents and guardians to see which sites their child is visiting. It also offers simple tools for setting filtering preferences when the Chromebook is off campus, helping families support safe and healthy device use at home.
