Weymouth Early Childhood Center
2025-2026
September 13, 2026
Good Morning,
What a terrific first week of school! As Mrs. MacKay and I walk around the classrooms, we see happy students engaged and learning—getting comfortable with the routines and schedules, learning about the school rules and expectations, and making new friends.
Thank you all for your patience navigating parking and the first week’s drop-off and pick-up routines. We know how difficult it can be as your children go off to school for their first school experience
Again, thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe!
From the Health Office:
As a reminder, for your child’s safety, please make sure all foods that could pose a choking risk are sent to school cut appropriately. Items such as grapes, cherry tomatoes, hot dogs, and similar foods should be cut into small pieces (lengthwise when appropriate) before being packed for lunch or snack.
Taking this extra step helps keep mealtimes safe for all students. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our school community healthy and safe!
WECC School Council:
We are looking for School Council members. If you are interested in being a part of our school council please send me an email (maura.perez@weymouthschools.org) to let me know of your interest. The first meeting will be on Monday, September 28th at 5:00 p.m.
What is School Council?
There are four major areas of responsibility for school councils.
Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards
Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school
Reviewing the annual school building budget
Formulating a school improvement plan
Reminders:
Important: As part of the 2026–2027 PreK school year, all families are required to attend on one of the following dates:
Positive Solutions for Families - Wednesday, September 30 at 6:30 p.m. OR October 7 at 6:30 p.m
This night is for parents/caregivers only. Positive behavior strategies used at school can be successfully carried over at home. We will discuss ways to help children recognize and manage their emotions, develop coping skills, and reduce challenging behaviors through consistent routines, clear expectations, and supportive strategies.
Have a great weekend!

Safety
The first weeks of school are critical for establishing daily schedules, routines, school rules, and—most importantly—safety protocols. During this time, staff have been actively teaching students about our fire drill procedures and other key safety practices.
As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety and emotional well-being, we incorporate two important books into our monthly safety lessons: The Ant Hill Disaster and The Elephant in the Room.
Here’s a brief synopsis of each:
The Ant Hill Disaster by Julia Cook
This story follows a young ant who is scared to return to school after it is destroyed in a disaster. Through the narrative, students learn how to cope with fear, develop resilience, and feel safe returning to school after a traumatic event. The Elephant in the Room
This book helps children process and talk about difficult or confusing feelings that may arise from challenging situations, emphasizing the importance of communication, empathy, and support within the school community.
By reading and discussing these books regularly, we aim to create a safe and supportive environment where students and staff are prepared.
