Dear Grandview families,

It has been a wonderful week at GES! Even in the middle of winter, our students and staff continue to bring energy, kindness, and a strong commitment to learning each day. I continue to be grateful for the partnership we share with our Grandview families - you make such a difference in helping our students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

As we move through January, our focus remains on building strong routines, reinforcing positive behavior expectations, and celebrating the progress our students are making. Thank you for continuing to talk with your child about showing TigerPRIDE each day—Purpose, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence. When school and home work together, students thrive!

We also have some exciting events coming up soon, including our GES Olympics on January 29. This will be a fun opportunity for families to come together and enjoy an evening of school spirit and connection. Be on the lookout for more details as the event gets closer.

Thank you again for your support, encouragement, and trust. We love our Grandview students and families, and we are proud to serve this community every day. As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, January 19th in observation of Martin Luther King, Jr. day.

With gratitude,

Dr. Susan Short
Principal, Grandview Elementary School

January’s Character Trait Focus: Perseverance

This month we are focusing on Perseverance, which we define as: pushing yourself through obstacles and challenges. You can learn more about this month’s focus by checking out the latest Character Strong newsletter.

Tip of the Week

Instead of asking your child, “How did you push through a hard challenge today?” This small shift encourages reflection and deeper conversations at home.

Family Resource
The Purposeful People library is a fantastic resource that organizes book lists by character trait. Try checking out some of these titles from your local library, or search for read-aloud versions on YouTube. Reading or listening to these stories together is a wonderful way to spark meaningful conversations about gratitude and other important values.

Hope everyone had a happy holiday and is ready for a new year!

Paloma Reading Program

The Paloma Reading Program is free innovative initiative that empowers families to become their children's biggest supporters in developing literacy skills. By clicking on the text link provided by Paloma daily, families can provide 15 daily minutes of short-burst tutoring at home, which translates to an entire extra year of school for every student. Parents do not have to download or purchase anything.

This program is particularly beneficial for K-2 students, as it helps accelerate learning by equipping parents with the skills to deliver curriculum-aligned instruction. Paloma's approach is effective and culturally responsive, allowing parents to engage in their children's learning in a way that aligns with their cultural backgrounds. The program has been recognized for its effectiveness, with 76% of K-2 parents successfully using it to tutor their children, resulting in a 45% increase in reading growth and a doubling of progress for multilingual learners.

Paloma's commitment to enhancing instructional time outside the classroom aims to create a seamless partnership between schools and families, ultimately improving student outcomes. Please click the links below for more information on how the program works.
