Dear parents, guardians, and students,

**Every week a different Academy student will act as a student ambassador for the weekly newsletter. Their message will feature some information about the student, The Academy, and what happened throughout the week.**

Hello,

My name is Trevor Limpy Jr. I am a senior at The Academy. The Academy is one of the best things to happen to me. I didn't like school until I was brought into The Academy. Then I started to look forward to going to school because of The Academy.

This week was spirit week, and it was fun seeing The Academy family dress up. We also started practicing our poetry this week. Everyone has been memorizing group and solo poems for the poetry slam coming up. A lot of the groups and solos have very good poems!

This is my third trimester in The Academy, and it has helped me so much. I enjoy my time with my classmates and teachers. Today is an early release and many students will attend the homecoming game at Woodle Field tonight. The Academy has had another fantastic week!

English Notes by Ms. R

English students write a journal entry, practice a spelling word, and learn a new vocabulary word every day. They also practice grammar. This week students continued learning the building blocks of English grammar by studying subjects, verbs, and clause and sentence structure. They also studied commonly misspelled words such as argument and amendment. Additionally, the students learned about the root word stit which means stand, so they learned words like constitution and destitute.

Additionally, students continued working on their poetry for the upcoming Poetry Slam that they will be competing in on September 23rd from 12:15 - 1:25! You are welcome to attend the Poetry Slam on the 23rd! The competition will take place in the Academy Building in room 201.

Students are also reading an independent reading book throughout the course of this trimester. This trimester they are reading dystopian novels such as: 1984 or Animal Farm by George Orwell, The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, etc . Students were able to select a book from 25+ different fiction dystopian books. The students read this book every day and write a paragraph about what they read. At the end of the trimester, they will complete a final project about the novel they selected.

If you would like to know what is coming up in Academy English, please feel free to review my trimester lesson plans. They can be found here.

Principles of Algebra and Geometry by Mr. Leonhardt

This week we continued learning about area to help us better calculate probability. We used area to calculate the probability of something happening in a given area. A test was given on Thursday to assess if we properly understand probability with a small amount of area questions being mixed in.

By: Dace Barwell

This week the students at The Academy doing in-person math have been working on probability of many different things. From races to charts of different school scenarios, we've learned how to calculate what the probability is for these situations. We've also touched up on what we were learning last week by using the knowledge of probability and area to gauge where an object could or could not land in a given region.

Yours truly,

Danyelle Napoli

Integrated Science by Mrs. Wheaton

We are working on the Conversions Unit which has been a lot of math, and the students have been doing a GREAT job of asking questions and tackling the tough problems. Next week we will explore density as the students design boats, and we will see which one can support the most pennies.
