A Message To Families From Mr. Peck
Riverview Families,
Monday, August 24 is a BIG day! It is the day that Riverview staff will officially return to work and begin preparations for the upcoming school year. The focus will be on building off the tremendous academic success we have seen the past couple of school years. We will be getting classrooms ready, planning engaging lessons, reviewing and tightening our security protocols, and doing many other things to ensure this year is the best one yet at Riverview. I am 100% confident that we can achieve that because I believe in our staff so completely and I know that we are about to welcome nearly 600 amazingly brilliant learners in just over a week!
If you haven't already, please click this link and sign up for a time to come in for assessments. Just select the name of your child's teacher and sign up for a time that works best for your family on either Monday, August 31 or Tuesday, September 1. When you come in for assessments, you'll also be able to drop off school supplies, meet with our school nurse, get school pictures taken, fill out the iPad user agreement or other important paperwork, and return any library books that are still at your home.
Finally, I wanted to let all families know that each Farmington school - including Riverview - will see some security enhancements beginning this school year. In addition to having our exterior doors locked throughout the day, visitors will notice that the main office door is locked as well. There will be a button on the wall and, if you wish to enter the main office, you will need to communicate who you are and the reason for your visit. Once that is done, Ms. Jen or Ms. Sally will have the ability to buzz you through. It will be a change, but one that makes our students and staff safer - which is a goal I think we can all get behind.
Make sure you are continuing to read for at least 20 minutes per day! It matters! Best wishes for a great week!
Shawn Peck
Principal

Sign Up For An Assessment Time With Your Child's Teacher
Monday, August 31 or Tuesday, September 1 will be our Meet & Greet/Assessments Days. Here is the link you will use to sign up for a time that works best for your family.
On our Meet & Greet/Assessment Days, learners will spend approximately 20-30 minutes one-on-one with their new teacher. Families should also bring school supplies and ask any questions they have about the upcoming school year that day. If you chose to order school supply's from Sprout, you will be able to pick them up in the office on either assessment day and take them to your child's classroom.
If your child is unable to attend on either of the assessment days, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher to arrange an alternate assessment time.
Start Adjusting to a Earlier Bedtime Routine This Week
If your family is like mine, we have been staying up later over the summer. Getting back into the grove of waking up early can be tough so we recommend trying to start getting to bed earlier and waking up earlier this week. By adjusting your child's sleep schedule gradually, they are more likely to be ready for learning in those first days of school.
New Video Intercom System to Provide Additional Layer of Security at All Schools
In Farmington Area Public Schools, the safety and security of our learners, staff, and families has always been and will remain a top priority.
Beginning this school year, all of our buildings will have an additional layer of security at the main office entrance. Before entering the main office, visitors will be required to use the video intercom system to request access. Front office staff will verify the reason for the visit and grant access accordingly.
We remain committed to welcoming our families into our schools and creating a safe, supportive environment where every learner can be successful. If you have any questions regarding this new security measure, please do not hesitate to reach out to your school’s main office.
1st Days of School Are "Split Days" For Kindergarten Learners
For many years now, Riverview has utilized "split days" on the first two days of school for kindergartners. Half of each class will come to school on Wednesday, Sept. 2 The other half will come on Thursday, Sept. 3. Then the whole class will come on Friday, Sept. 4. We have found that having a smaller group of students on those first days helps us ensure that every child gets the care and attention they need to have a great first day of school.
On August 18, parents/guardians of kindergartners will be able to click this link and choose which day they prefer for their child to attend. It is the same link folks will chose to sign up for an assessment time with their child's teacher on the the August 31 or September 1.The only exception is that due to the impossibility of getting our students who receive special education busing routed in such a short of time line we are going to have our kids who receive sped busing come on the second day (Thursday, Sept. 3). If you prefer to have your child attend the first day (Wednesday, Sept. 2), you will need to provide the transportation that day. This is what we have done in previous year as well.
Welcome To Our New Staff Members!!
Bri Froehling - School Nurse
Hi, my name is Bri! I’m the new building nurse at Riverview. I have a bachelor’s degree in Health and Wellness Promotion from UNC-Asheville and a master’s degree in Nursing from Elmhurst University. My past experience includes health coaching, pre/post-anesthesia care, observation unit, and ER.
I’m excited to work with kiddos and provide a welcoming, safe, and supportive space for students/staff. I’m also very grateful for the opportunity to work close to home, especially since my daughter, Kenny, is starting preschool in the district this year!
Outside of work, we enjoy all things sports, traveling, and spending time outdoors. I can’t wait to meet everyone and looking forward to a great school year!
Darsi McIsaac - Media Para
Hi, my name is Darci McIsaac. I am very excited to be joining Riverview as the new media paraprofessional. I was raised as an Army kid, living in Germany, Colorado, Alaska, and Missouri. I graduated from Missouri Southern State University with a BA in Psychology. Over the past 25+ years I have worked for Target, Old Navy, the Department of Veterans Affairs and most recently focused my time as a stay-at-home mom. In my free time, I love to spend time with my family of 3, my husband Aaron and daughter Avery, reading, traveling, and looking for new experiences for us to enjoy.
Having my daughter attend Riverview for six years, being a member of the Parent Teacher Partnership (PTP) and book fair committee for two years, and having had the opportunity to serve as a substitute paraprofessional for the past two years, I have become familiar with the school community and have greatly enjoyed working with its students, staff and parents. I understand the importance of creating a welcoming, structured, and positive environment for students while adapting to the needs of different age groups and learning styles. I am particularly drawn to the opportunity to support students in developing a love of reading, learning and exploration.
School Pictures Will Be Taken During Assessment/Meet the Teacher Days
School pictures will be taken on Assessment Days (Aug 31 & Sept. 1). There will be no scheduled times, so please head to the RVES Multi-Purpose Room anytime between 7:30-3:30 while you are at Riverview to have your child’s picture taken. All ordering will take place directly through Jostens. Visit www.jostenspix.com/shop and use event code FE26026 to order your child's school pictures.
If you are unable to attend the assessment days, a picture make-up day will be held on Oct. 8 during the school day.

Riverview is Hiring Two Additional Paraprofessionals!
Have you been thinking of getting involved in the schools, making a difference in the lives of kids, and being a part of a tremendous team? Well if you have, please consider applying to be a special education paraprofessional at Riverview. We recently had two positions open up:
1. In our SMI (severely multiply impaired) classroom. We added some learners with significant medical needs to this program and so we are looking to expand our team to ensure that they are safe at school and have the support they need in order to access a great education.
2. In our SEL classroom. We had a recent resignation in this program that supports learners who have emotional and/or behavioral disabilities. We are looking for someone with compassion and patience to join this team so that these learners can feel safe, calm, and loved at school so they can be successful.
If you are interested in either position, please click this link to apply. Reach out to principal Shawn Peck if you have any questions.

Announcements & Reminders From Our District Nurses, Michelle Pepera & Jill Hauge
Dear Parent/Guardian, July 1, 2026
Another year is behind us, and we are looking forward to fall of 2026!
Students will need to have up to date medication orders for fall. These must be signed by your medical provider as well as a parent or guardian. These may be emailed to us over summer or provided to the building nurses the week of August 24th.
New medications may be given to the nurses when school resumes. All medications including over the counter items must have an annual provider order on file and be in the original bottle from the pharmacy. The dose must match the dose on the medical order.
If your student has a special health need such as Asthma, Anaphylaxis, Epilepsy or Diabetes, we must receive doctor orders/action plans prior to school beginning. These must be updated annually and signed by your provider and a parent or guardian.
If your student has had a prior health plan, we will be emailing you the updated version for review and/or planning an in-person meeting. If your student is new to the district, contact us, the building nurse, or administrator if your student will require a health plan.
Minnesota Immunization Law 121A requires that children enrolled in school to be immunized against certain diseases or file a legal medical or conscientious exemption. Each student is required to show proof of receiving the necessary immunizations or provide a notarized statement of medical or conscientious objection to immunization. Please submit your child’s immunizations records as soon as possible and no later than the first day of school.
There are current vaccine requirements for kindergarten, 7th and 12th grade. These students will need to show proof of vaccination or have a completed objection form prior to school beginning.
If you do not have health insurance that covers the cost of immunizations, please refer to Dakota County Public Health for a list of their immunization clinics at http://www.co.dakota.mn.us/HealthFamily/HealthServices/ImmunizationClinics/Pages/default.aspx.
Please call with any questions or concerns.

Be Sure To Return All Library Books and Other Materials Borrowed From School
We are still missing many library books and other checked out materials from last school year. If you notice any of these at your home, please bring them to the main office at your earliest convenience. Fine/fees may be applied to families with lost books or materials.
RVES Office Hours For The Rest of Summer & The School Year
This week, the RVES main office will be open from 7:30-3:00 each day. Once the school year begins, the main office will be open on all school days from 7:00-3:00.
Once the school year starts, our doors will open and students will be able to enter the building at 7:25. Breakfast will be available for all learners when they arrive. At 7:40, our "learning bell" will ring and our daily announcements will come over the loud speaker. At that point, we expect all learners to be in their classroom and ready to learn. Please be sure to have your child to school on time so they do not miss any important routines or learning in the morning.
Learners are dismissed at the end of our academic day at 2:10.
Keep On Reading Every Night at Home! It Makes a HUGE Difference!
