Tips for Back to School
Keeping a consistent sleep schedule helps your child have success in school.
Children 6-12 years old need 9-12 hours of sleep per night.
Sleep allows your body to supply energy for the next day, helps your immune system fight off illness and improves memory and concentration.
Tips for a Good Nighttime Routine:
1. Put away electronics at least 1 hour before bed
2. Go to bed around the same time every night
3. Take a warm bath or shower
4. Read, journal or listen to music
5. Keep your room cool and dark
Nutrition affects learning by fueling the brain with the energy it needs to focus, remember and process information.
Focus on eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins.
Free breakfast in the cafeteria is available for all students.
Tips for healthy eating:
- Eat fruits and vegetables every day
- Limit sugary drinks
- Eat lean meats and other good sources of protein such as beans, nuts and fish
- Limit low nutrient snacks such as chips
- Choose whole grain breads and cereals which are a good source of fiber
