All staff and students district wide took time out of their day on Tuesday to celebrate and connect with each other. A wide variety of activities were taking place with everything from a kindergarten Thanksgiving feast to a Madden football tournament and everything in between! Safe + Sound Iowa is now up and running at IKM-Manning. Safe + Sound Iowa is an initiative from the Governor's Safety Bureau and is an anonymous school violence/crisis reporting tool. The purpose is to reach students in crisis before they harm themselves or others. When students, community members, teachers or parents report a concern, a trained dispatcher reaches out to school administration, law enforcement or medical professionals to help the student in need. Safe + Sound Iowa is available 24/7 and 365 days out of the year.

Students in grades 4-12 were educated about Safe + Sound Iowa the past few weeks and know this is another way to report safety concerns about our school. Parent communication also went out on November 8.

Work based learning (WBL) implementation at IKM-Manning is in full swing. According to the Iowa Department of Education , work based learning is defined as a continuum of structured activities utilizing a partnership between industry and education to engage student learning. Four parts make up WBL including awareness, exploration, preparation, and training to develop career skills.

Jenny Linde, work based learning coordinator, would like to continue building district opportunities in bringing real life work skills and experiences to our students by collecting information from area businesses who would like to partner with students. Partnering with the WBL program has many options from students visiting a business, to an internship or paid employment. Linde is asking for all local businesses to fill out the business partnership form below whether your business is interested in partnering or not.

The goal for the WBL program is to have students partnering with area businesses as soon as second semester, which will begin in January. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Jenny Linde at jlinde@ikm-manning.k12.ia.us

IKM-Manning Middle School Student Council members are selling subscriptions to the Manilla Times now through December 15. The school gets $5 for each new or renewal subscription.
