Trauma 101: An Overview of Trauma-Informed Care
September 29, 2026, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. | In-person
Philadelphia Recovery Training Center, PRTC
520 N. Columbus Blvd. Ste. 201
Philadelphia, PA 19123
Trauma impacts more people than we may realize. Are you prepared to recognize it and respond in a trauma-informed way?
Research shows that 67% of people have experienced at least one Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE). Understanding how trauma can affect a person’s physical, emotional, and social well-being is an important part of creating safer and more supportive environments.
Join us in person for an engaging, interactive workshop that brings trauma-informed care to life through discussion, multimedia, and hands-on learning. Together, participants will explore the complex impact of trauma and strengthen their understanding of how trauma-informed approaches can support the individuals and communities they serve.
Presented by Melissa L. Groden, MS, HC-BCP, CFRS

About the Philadelphia Recovery Training Center
The Philadelphia Recovery Training Center (PRTC) is more than a training center. It is a place where peers, supervisors, and recovery professionals come to grow, lead, and strengthen the recovery community. PRTC provides recovery-focused, peer-centered trainings that support skill-building, professional growth, and continuing education. Our goal is to help individuals and organizations build confidence, strengthen leadership, and create lasting impact in the field.
As part of PRTC, the Philadelphia Peer Leadership Academy (PPLA) has been building peer leaders since 2007. PPLA was created through the vision and support of DBHIDS and PRO-ACT, who recognized the need for stronger peer-driven leadership in Philadelphia’s behavioral health system. The program was built on the belief that people with lived experience should have a voice in shaping services, strengthening communities, and leading system change. Together, PRTC and PPLA are committed to developing strong, confident, and community-rooted leaders who help move recovery forward.
Training services are free in Philadelphia through funding provided by the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS)
