Safety Spotlight — Reunification

Reunification is the process of controlled release of students. A reunification may be required if certain emergency events occur at school, such as threats to safety in the form of weapon threats, bomb threats, or building evacuations due to extreme weather, gas leaks, or earthquake situations.

Read about the district's reunification process, what parents can expect in the event of an offsite reunification, and how parents will be notified in the event of a reunification by visiting the district website. Thank you for your attention to this important safety protocol. Families are also encouraged to watch this video that outlines the reunification process in schools.

Riverside High School Selected as Name for District's Third High School

The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board has officially selected Riverside as the name of the District's third option high school following a thorough community engagement process. The name was selected for a number of reasons:

  • Riverside has geographical significance and highlights the school's proximity to the Willamette, Tualatin, and Clackamas Rivers.
  • Riverside is distinct and unique among high schools in Oregon.
  • Riverside is meaningful to both the West Linn and Wilsonville communities, uniting both with this new school that will draw students from all over the district.

Riverside High School will officially open for the 2023-24 school year. It will be located at the current Athey Creek Middle School site following capital bond improvements. The current Athey Creek Middle School will be relocated to the Dollar Street site where construction of a new middle school is currently underway.

To follow bond project progress, interested community members are encouraged to visit the bond website and sign up for bond updates.

Interested incoming kindergarten students still have time to submit their Application of Interest Form for the District's Chinese Dual Language Program. The deadline to apply for the Spanish Dual Language Program has closed.

Health and Sexuality Parent Input Session Scheduled for April 25 at Meridian Creek Middle School

The West Linn-Wilsonville School District will host a parent input session regarding health and sexuality education on April 25 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Meridian Creek Middle School.

In February 2019, the West Linn-Wilsonville School Board approved the district’s plan for teaching to the 2016 Oregon Health Education Standards. After the initial approval, school districts update their plans and submit them for approval every two school years.

Plan updates describe the curriculum materials that will be used and agreements about practices and communication. In April 2019, district staff formed a Health and Sexuality Task Force composed of teachers, counselors, learning specialists, administrators, and parents. The Task Force has parent members representing district primary, middle, and high schools as well as different viewpoints about sexuality education. The purpose of the Task Force was to identify any added curriculum materials and to revise the agreements and communication practices. The update plan defines the materials used in the practices and communication that will be in place in all WLWV K-12 classrooms.

At the April 25 meeting, Task Force members will share samples of the materials and a draft of the agreements about practices and communication so those attending can discuss them and provide input. Attendees will focus only on the updates to the curriculum materials and the agreements about practices and communication.
