Principal's Message
Our second quarter was off and running this week! You will find a printed copy of your child's first quarter report card coming home today. Please sign the envelope and return it to school so we can use it again next grading period. The printed report card is for your to keep. Thank you for all of the support you give to your student and for the partnership you bring to Goshen Lane!

3rd Grade State Testing
Our 3rd graders will take their state reading test next week on Tuesday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 28. We are so proud of how hard our students have been working to get ready!
Here are a few ways you can help your child do their best:
Make sure they get a good night’s sleep before each testing day.
Eat a healthy breakfast each morning.
Arrive to school on time so they can start the day calmly.
Offer encouragement and confidence—remind them to take their time and do their best!
We know our 3rd graders will shine! 🌟

5th, 4th, and 3rd graders have been showing off their flag football skills the past few weeks! Classes have been learning about the sport and practicing flag pulling, getting open for a pass offensively, running for touchdowns, and defensive/offensive strategies! Flag football has become a very popular growing sport the past couple years! Did you know girls flag football is now an organized varsity sport in Ohio!
All grade levels have a new warm up procedure this year where students rotate in small groups through 6 different fitness stations. Each station is 1 minute long and we are focusing on counting how many reps we can do for 1 minute. The most recent exercises have been:
Bird Dog - Balance and core strength
Jump Rope - Cardiovascular Fitness
Agility Ladder - Speed
Sitting Toe Touch - Flexibility
Jumping Jacks - Cardiovascular Fitness
Wall Sit - Muscular Endurance
K, 1st, and 2nd graders have been practicing throwing and rolling skills in a variety of activities. We recently played a student favorite large group game called Battleship. Students love this game that practices throwing, rolling, blocking, team work, communication, and scooter fun! This week classes had a blast in an activity called Pin Take Down that encourages students to find open space, defend their pin, and throw for accuracy.
Questions to ask your student:
How did you show respect in Phys Ed class?
Did you give your best effort in Phys Ed class?
2026-2027 Gifted VPA Newsletter Info
Each year school districts in Ohio are required to offer an opportunity for students in grades K-12 to be identified as gifted in the area of Visual and Performing Arts. The identified areas of giftedness for Visual and Performing Arts include Visual Arts, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Drama/Theater, and Dance. If you know of a student that may be gifted in an area of the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) and would like for them to be screened for possible gifted identification in that particular area, please complete the Visual and Performing Arts Nomination Form found through this link.
Click here to learn more about the two-phase VPA gifted identification process. Please keep in mind that this evaluation is for identification purposes only. There are no specialized classes offered to students identified as gifted in VPA; however, teachers can use this information to differentiate their lessons.
Please note: Once a student is identified as gifted in one of the Visual and Performing Arts categories (instrumental music, vocal music, dance, visual art, theater/drama), the student is not eligible to go through the nomination process again for the same category.
Nominations will be accepted until Sunday, November 15, 2026, and will only be accepted using the Google link above.
If you have any questions, please contact Colleen Boyle at gjpsgifted@gjps.org.
