Hi Caverly Families!
I enjoyed visiting with all of you at conferences last week or the week before, thank you for joining me! I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving with their loved ones. I feel so grateful for all of the wonderful families here at Caverly Preschool. Thank you for sharing your child/children with me, they bring a smile to my face each and every day!
We had three special visitors this week to support our learning about community helpers. Peter's mom, Dr. Lucy, came to show us all of her doctor tools and to tell us more about how she helps people stay healthy and safe. Pittsford firefighters Mike, Nolan's dad, and Tyler, Ben's dad, came to show us their super cool firetruck and taught us all about their tools on board. Mike modeled all the fire fighting equipment for us and taught us how we can stay safe in the case of a fire emergency! Thank you so much Lucy, Mike, and Tyler!
When we return from Thanksgiving break we will begin our “Holidays Around the World” curriculum. Each school day we will learn about a new celebration and/or tradition, students will learn about Diwali, Ramadan, Hanukkah, Saint Lucia, Las Posadas, Kwanzaa, and Christmas! We will also be familiarizing ourselves with the classic tale of The Gingerbread Man. This story is strong in rhythm, rhyme, and repetition and it can teach us about actions and consequences. Knowing the original tale will build a platform for students to understand and appreciate other delightful tales such as The Gingerbread Girl, The Gingerbread Baby and other variations of the Gingerbread Man.
Our dramatic play center will transform into the Caverly Bake Shop. While playing in the Bake Shop students will be building their math, literacy, and social skills during their pretend play. In our Science Center students will find the “5 Senses Gingerbread Exploration”. Students will have hands-on learning opportunities while working here, and will learn all about our five senses and how they can help us to explore the world around us!
On December 18th and 19th we will celebrate our learning by wearing our PJ’s to school and having a cookie party! If you are able to provide anything for this celebration please sign up here. Thank you!
