BPES Little Titans Newsletter
August 27, 2026- BPE is Reaching for the Stars
1st Bell rings at 8:50- Tardy Bell rings at 9:00/ Dismissal starts at 3:40
Dear BPE Families,
What a wonderful start to the 2026–2027 school year! We have officially been in school for 6 full days with our students in grades 1–4 and 3 full days with our Kindergarten students, and we are so excited about the year ahead!
Right now, we are spending a lot of time building strong foundations by focusing on BPE and our classroom expectations. Students are learning what it means to be Respectful, Responsible, Safe, and Kind throughout all areas of their school day.
Our district PBIS matrix focuses on these expectations in a variety of settings, including:
- Classroom
- Arrival
- Dismissal
- Restroom
- Hallway
- Cafeteria
- Recess
- Bus
We are intentionally teaching and practicing these expectations so that all of our students know what success looks like wherever they are throughout the school day. We are so proud of the way our students are learning, growing, and settling into their routines!
And what a special surprise we had yesterday! The Cleveland Browns staff and Chomps were at BPE to clap our students into school! The excitement was contagious, and the kids were definitely coming in with a little pep in their step! 🧡🏈
Thank you for partnering with us as we begin another fantastic school year. We are looking forward to all of the learning, growth, and memories this year will bring!
We hope everyone has a great Friday tomorrow and an even better weekend!
Go BPE! 💙

Attendance Matters
All schools in our district are focusing on attendance because missing even 2 days in September can affect a student’s success for the rest of the year. We’re reaching out early to help families notice absences, identify barriers, and find support. Together, we can build strong attendance habits that lead to academic success!

The most recent federal data show that in the 2020-21 school year, at least 14.7 million students nationwide were chronically absent. Attendance Data
We will be celebrating Attendance Goals each month and setting individual, grade level and school wide goals. We love having our students with us on time each and every day.
Student Fees will be added October 1
School Fees will be added to student accounts on October 1, 2026. Payments may be made in person at BPE using Cash or Check , or through Infinite Campus. Instructions are provided below.
Families are asked and encouraged to complete the Income Eligibility Verification Form to access additional benefits, including increased state and federal funding for staff, equipment, and supplies; discounts on fees for academic assessments; and access to local scholarships, tuition assistance for dual credit and AP courses, and discounts on college application fees. By completing the application, you help the district continue to provide valuable resources and opportunities for every student.
Online payment is our preferred method for parents and guardians to pay for school fees, cafeteria payments, and more.
The Infinite Campus Online Payment system is a payment processing solution that allows you to submit food service and school-related fees 24/7 via the Parent Portal. Payments can be made for one child or the entire household.
The Fees tool provides a list of all fees assigned to you. Fees may include things like a lab fee for a science course, a fee for a field trip or the cost of an athletic activity. Fees that are still owed and fees that were paid appear in this list, followed by the ongoing balance for all fees.
If you are unable to use the online payment system, please contact the
treasurer's office at (216) 898-8300.
SEL Lessons
Compass360 PBIS SEL Lessons for K-8
For the 2026-2027 school year, our K-8 classrooms will continue to implement Compass360 lessons as a part of our District's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. These weekly lessons are specifically designed to nurture our students' emotional growth and interpersonal abilities.
Compass360 directly aligns with the five core competencies identified by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL):
Self-Awareness: Students will learn to recognize their emotions and thoughts, understanding how these internal states influence their behavior.
Self-Management: We'll equip students with practical tools to manage stress, control impulses, and effectively set and achieve personal goals.
Social Awareness: Lessons will cultivate empathy, encouraging students to understand and appreciate diverse perspectives and backgrounds within their community and beyond.
Relationship Skills: Students will develop essential communication strategies, learn to work effectively in teams, and gain valuable conflict resolution techniques.
Responsible Decision-Making: We'll guide students through processes that help them make constructive and ethical choices regarding their personal and social conduct.
Through engaging activities, thoughtful discussions, and regular reflection, Compass360 lessons create a supportive and positive environment where students can grow, both academically and emotionally.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the Compass360 lessons, please don't hesitate to reach out to:

A Few Great Reminders
Breakfast
Breakfast is available from 8:40 AM till 9:00 AM daily
- Students wishing to eat breakfast can enter the building at 8:40 a.m
- Car riders must remain in their cars till 8:40.
- Bus Riders/Walkers may enter the building at 8:40
Arrival
The school day starts at 8:50 a.m. All car riders should wait in their cars until 8:40 AM.
This is very important for safety reason. Our staff are not on duty till 8:40 AM. Please pull all the way up to the last Orange Cone if you are ever the first car and then after as the line starts to move.
Safety Reminders that we are already seeing: PLEASE follow the expectations for the safety of our staff and students.
- DO NOT hop out of line and cut through the parking lot.
- Please remain off your cell phone while dropping students off
- The traffic flow takes every car around the loop.
Walkers will enter the building through the front doors @ 8:50 and should not arrive to school prior to 8:40
Late students must have an adult come to the office and sign them in.
The tardy bell rings at 9:00 AM
Cars are NOT to drop students off in the front loop- if dropping kids off in the front you must park and walk kids to the front door (park in a parking spot in the small lot or at the REC)
Dismissal
Student dismissal will begin at 3:40 p.m.
All walkers will exit the building through our front doors. Students meet their adults out front or follow the sidewalks and cross at the designated and safe crossing areas.
Parents, please wait off to the side away from the front doors.
All bus riders will exit as the buses arrive. Students will walk safely in a line following their Safety Patrol Leader to get on their bus.
Cars should not arrive any earlier than 3:15 p.m. for dismissal. All drivers must display a car number tag. The gate will start to be closed until 3:15 due to students utilzing the playground area for multiple reasons.
- Please remain in your vehicle. Staff members will bring your child to you and help them get into the car.
- Safely dismissing more than 400 car riders is something we take very seriously. The line may be long, especially during the first few days, but it will move more quickly as our kindergarten students learn the routine and recognize their numbers.
- If your child is able to ride the bus, we strongly encourage you to use district transportation.
- As we often say, if we can wait three hours at Cedar Point for Top Thrill 2, we can wait 25 minutes or less in the car line for our most precious cargo. Our children.
- Thank you for your patience and kindness!
If you are changing a dismissal plan on any given day, please call the office before 3:00 p.m. so that we make sure your child knows in a timely manner. Do not send your teacher a DoJo message, it must go through the office.

Car numbers and TAGS
Highly Suggested
- We highly suggest that parents park across the street and have students walk to them if they are planning to not be in the pick up line. They must cross at the crosswalk with the crossing guard. ALL parents, when parking in the front lot must be legally parked in a spot and the child must be walked by the adult/guardian to the car if they are parked in a spot.
Walking
- We suggest you set up a safe routine with your child(ren) from day 1 that follows our school wide expectations. We want all our children to exit the building each day safely and arrive home safe.
BIKES
- If riding their bike, it is highly recommended that they wear a helmet. All bike riders MUST walk their bike while on school property and have a lock to secure their bike during the day
No DOGS on school property
For the safety of students, staff and visitors, no dogs are permitted on school property during regular school hours or during arrival/dismissal times unless they are part of an approved visit/program. Families walking students to and/or from school should not bring dogs on the property to drop students off or pick them up.

Nutrition Services News
Berea City School District Provides Free Breakfast and Lunch To All Students
All students will once again receive free breakfast and lunch, regardless of income.
This is a continuation of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program, and all students will be automatically enrolled.
The CEP is free for eligible public school districts to participate in.
We will be serving the warm breakfast choice downstairs and the additional option upstairs. Please take time to discuss with your child which option they may be selecting so that they know to go upstairs or downstairs. Our BPE staff will be there to assist and direct students daily.
Cafeterias are Cashless
If your student wishes to purchase extra items, ala carte snacks/beverages, they must have money preloaded on their Infinite Campus Food Service Account. If you wish to pay with a check or cash (check preferred) please drop off the payment to the school office in an envelope clearly marked "Lunch Money" with the student's first and last name and ID number. Checks should be made payable to the school cafeteria. Cash will no longer be accepted in the serving line at meal times at any of the district buildings.

BPE Physical Education Department
Welcome back and I hope everyone had a great summer. We wanted to take some time to cover some of the expectations for our students in Physical Education class. As the seasons change we see many different types of footwear.
Here is a list of foot attire that will not be considered safe to participate in PE this year:
- Moon boots
- Crocs
- Flip Flops
- Sandals
- Shoes with heels
We are hoping students will wear athletic shoes with shoe laces or velcro straps. We encourage you to take some time to know which color day your child has PE class this year so you can help them have the proper clothing for class. Items like dresses, skirts (please wear shorts under them), and jeans make it very difficult to participate in class.
We are excited about the school year and over the next month we plan to learn and incorporate all the routines, procedures, and warm-up activities. In the weeks to come we will be reviewing and introducing equipment such as hula hoops, scooters, and gator skin balls which will be used throughout the year. Our third and fourth graders will be taking their pre fitness test in the first week of September. Second grade will be introduced to the routine of the fitness testing
Thanks again for your support and let’s have a great year.
Welcome back!!!!

Effective Communication: regarding your child, school-related issue or district-related issue
Do you have questions, concerns or feedback regarding your child, your child's school, or the school district?
Questions, concerns and feedback are best addressed through direct communication with the person closest to the situation.
Start with your child’s teacher for concerns involving your child. For school-related matters, contact the school’s main office or an administrator. District-related questions can be directed to the Central Office at 216-898-8300.
Reaching out directly helps ensure your concern is received by the right person and can be addressed appropriately.
