Dragon Weekly
Monday, May 5 - Friday, May 9
May is a month of blooming flowers, warming weather, and a sense of anticipation in schools everywhere. As spring settles in, students and teachers alike begin to feel the excitement of the approaching summer break. Classrooms are filled with the hum of final projects, test reviews, and countdowns to the last day of school.
In May, the days stretch longer and brighter, encouraging outdoor learning, school garden projects, and end-of-year picnics. There’s a feeling of both closure and new beginnings—perfect for inspiring students to finish strong and dream big.
The Heart of Mountainburg Schools: Our Teachers
In the quiet hills of Mountainburg, where the school is more than just a building—it’s a hub of the community—you'll find a special kind of teacher. These aren’t just educators. They are mentors and motivators who invest themselves in every student who walks through their doors.
At Mountainburg Schools, teachers wear many hats. One moment they are leading a science experiment with eager third graders; the next, they are comforting a nervous high school senior on making decisions for their future. Their classrooms are filled not just with books and computers, but with encouragement, creativity, and a belief that every student matters.
What truly sets them apart is their unwavering commitment. Many of our teachers grew up in Mountainburg or were "transplanted" here through marriage or being hired here. They know their students by name, their stories, and their dreams. They attend ball games, music concerts, and community events—not because they have to, but because they care.
The teachers at Mountainburg Schools are here serving as guiding hands and steady voices that help young people discover who they are and what they can become. They don’t just teach lessons; they shape futures.
The Heart behind the Health: Our School Nurses
School nurses are the quiet heroes of our hallways—always ready with a caring hand, a listening ear, and the calm needed in moments big and small. Whether it's a scraped knee, a sudden fever, or a student who just needs a break from the day, our nurses provide more than medical care—they offer comfort, safety, and reassurance.
They know each child not just by their health charts, but by their smiles, their struggles, and their stories. From managing daily medications to handling emergencies with grace, our school nurses are a vital part of what keeps our students healthy, learning, and thriving.
Cafeteria Project
Mountainburg Public Schools is initiating a strategic plan to address facility needs. To support our students and provide a high-quality learning environment, we are requesting a 3.9-mill increase, which would bring our millage rate to 47.9 mills.
This funding would allow us to build a new middle school/ high school cafeteria providing a modern, warm, safe and dry kitchen and student dining space. Voters will decide on this investment in May 2025, ensuring we can meet both current and future student needs.
There will be two public meetings:
- Thursday, May 1 at 6:00
- Tuesday, May 6 at 6:00
Please join us in the MMS/MHS Cafeteria for a Q&A, review and provide input in the preliminary designs, tour the existing cafeteria, and the new Dragon Gym & Activity Center.
