Hubbard Woods Family Newsletter
May 19, 2025
Dear Hubbard Woods Families,
During our recent Town Hall, we had the privilege of participating in another World Traveler's event, where we journeyed to Vietnam. The Le family shared fascinating insights into Vietnamese culture, history, and geography. Students even had the chance to explore Vietnamese currency and unique artifacts firsthand. We are incredibly grateful to the Le family for bringing this experience to the Hubbard Woods community. Although this was our last World Traveler's presentation for the year, I am eager to continue learning about the many rich cultures that make up our school community in the future.
On another note, Mayfest was a tremendous success once again! It was wonderful to see children enjoying the festivities while also supporting the PTO's fundraising efforts. A heartfelt thank you to all the PTO members who worked tirelessly to bring Mayfest to life, continuing this cherished tradition for our community.
All the best,
Ivory Ajavon
Principal
Town Hall: Our Commitment to Progressive Practices
Monday, May 19 | 6:00–7:00 pm at Hubbard Woods
It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces at the Winnetka Parent Institute session this past Wednesday, where we focused on K-2 Literacy and its Connecting Our Teaching and Learning to Progressive Education. For those who couldn’t join us, I encourage you to take some time to listen to the session at this link and learn more about the impactful work happening across the district.
I would also like to invite you to join me this evening in the auditorium for a conversation centered on our ongoing commitment to progressive education. I will share some insights, and there will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and share your ideas and experiences.
Benchmark Assessment Information
Benchmark assessments are valuable tools that provide a snapshot of student progress at a point in time. These assessments help teachers to identify areas where students are excelling and where they may need additional support. They can also inform instructional decisions by providing data that can be used to tailor teaching to meet each student's unique needs and strengths. Benchmark assessments are an important component of progressive education, which recognizes that students learn in different ways and at different rates. By using benchmark assessments to inform instruction, teachers can provide a more individualized approach to learning that supports each student's academic growth and personal development.
Academic benchmark assessments for literacy and math will occur three times this year for students in grades K-8. The Spring Benchmark Assessments start on May 5th and conclude on May 23rd. There are four platforms the district utilizes to gather student learning information; aimswebPlus, mCLASS, NWEA MAP, and SSIS. Benchmark data will be available in Otus beginning May 30, 2025. In order to allow for the data uploads to take place and to provide parents with consistent access to student data, please be aware that the Otus Parent Portal will be inaccessible May 5-30.
Building Data Team meetings to review the Winter Benchmarking data will occur June 2-6.
Please be aware that access to the Otus Parent Portal will be turned off on June 30, 2025 in order to prepare for the next school year. Communication will be sent out at the start of the year notifying parents when the portal will be accessible again.
