I am excited to share that I am one very Proud Principal! Our Thompson teachers continue to work with intention, urgency, and heart to strengthen both the academic and behavioral growth of every scholar. Our collective focus remains clear: high levels of achievement, ensuring every scholar at Thompson Elementary is performing on or above grade level in all subject areas.

During your parent-teacher conference, your scholar’s teacher will share Middle-of-the-Year (MOY) data from MAP, mCLASS, and Circle assessments. This information helps us celebrate progress, identify next steps, and partner with you on targeted strategies you can use at home to support your scholar’s continued growth.

The state of Texas has a mandatory Attendance Requirement of 90%. Please know that under the Compulsory Attendance Law, all students must be in attendance at least 90% of the time they've been enrolled in a public school. In order to receive credit for a final grade for a class, a student is required to attend class 90 percent of the days a class is offered regardless of whether the student's absences are excused ] or unexcused.

Please click to veiw the requirements!

TEA ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

Be sure to contact our Attendance Clerk regarding your child being absent for any reason.

mflore3@springisd.org

Appointments & Excuses

If your child has a doctor's appointment, please try to schedule it after snapshot attendance time at 9:30am. Any student who arrives after 9:30am is counted absent, regardless of what type of appointment it is. However, it is recommended that in this instance, you still provide the documentation for any medical appointments to ensure the absence has been resolved versus left unexcused. Unexcused absences do not tell the story. But doctors' notes and parent notes do! Please submit doctor's excuses and parent notes within three days of the absence.

Tardies

School starts at 8:05AM. We have free breakfast each day and students can arrive as early as 7:35am! Some students who are late, enter the room frustrated or off task, causing a disruption to the instructional day. Help our scholars learn meaningful lessons about life and work, by getting them to school on time to assist them in getting a GREAT START!

PLEASE ALLOW YOUR SCHOLARS TO GET TUTORING SUPPORT

Scholars received their 4th & 5th grade Tutorial Permission Slips last week. Thank you for signing and returning them. If you still need to do so, no worries, you can send it can be turned in. Even if you checked the "NO" box, please return the form.

It is imperative that every invited scholar attends tutorials on the outline days so that their score can increase from the previous year. The State of Texas requires ALL 4th & 5th grade scholars to make more growth than they did on the 2025 STAAR Assessment in Reading & Math.

You will receive a copy of your signed persmission slip for your returns. Please make note of the specific days your scholar(s) should be present.

  • Tuesday & Wednesday Tutorials are for those scholars who are at Approaches(close to grade level) based on academic data from The Texas Education Agency.

  • Saturday Tutorials are for those scholars who are at Did Not Meet (well-below grade level) based on academic data from The Texas Education Agency. More time is needed to support them with basic and on grade level skills to maximize their growth.

*******************************************************************************************************

Parent-Teacher Conferences are this Thursday, Feb. 19!
  • This is a valuable opportunity for families to connect one-on-one with teachers, review academic progress, discuss strengths and areas for growth, and ask questions about classroom learning. These conversations help build strong school-home partnerships that support student success.

While students are on Mid-Winter Break, we encourage parents and guardians to take advantage of this time to stay informed and engaged in their child’s educational journey.
