Daily Devotion
How do we begin the day at CCS?
With a song and Bible teaching! We love our morning devotion time!
At the lower school campus, PK through 6th Grade begin the day in the gym with a song of worship, a scripture devotion, and the doxology. For students in the upper school, morning singing and devotion happens between 1st and 2nd period classes each day.
Some of this week's scriptures were:
- Isaiah 29:13-14
- 1 John 3:16
- John 10:11
- 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13
- Hebrews 10:38-39
- Proverbs 31:30
A Look Back at the Week
Basketball Champions
Congratulations to the 6th Grade Boys on winning the TVBA Championship!
Over the past four seasons playing in the Cullman County Youth league (3rd through 6th grade), this group compiled an astonishing 90-1 record. Competing in the TVBA, they finished 21-6, and with the championship victory, the team closed out their time together with an incredible 110-7 overall record since they first began playing together in 3rd grade.
Audience for the Trash Truck
Watching big trucks move and work is always an eye catcher for kids. The weekly garbage truck is no exception! Kids love watching it role through and do its job that we are all so very thankful for.
Senior Outing
Graduation is not far away! So, the seniors spent some intentional time together as a group this week having fun and enjoying each other's company. On Wednesday they took a quick trip to pick up lunch and eat at the park. This will be one of their last times to ride in the little CCS bus that has carried them many miles over the years.
Remembering Papaw Percy
Discover the difference is often a tagline used when we talk to others about CCS. Friday was one of the days where a difference could be seen. Those of you who traveled through the 2:55 car line at Beach Avenue saw a space marked off with a sign in memory of Papaw Percy. Papaw Percy Baldwin was a grandfather to two of our lower school students who passed away this week. Mr. Baldwin could be seen everyday having the first space in car line eagerly waiting to pick up his granddaughters who he called his girls. Mr. Baldwin would often see younger students waiting with their parents in car line or students that were serving the school while he was waiting and would offer them a dumb dumb lollipop. He was seen at the school as a beloved grandparent who not only took the time to love on his own grandchildren but show love to others as well. Many members of our PTF and staff wanted to show their appreciation for his loving actions on Friday by honoring his spot in car line as well as sending each child home with a lollipop. This is where the difference comes in. At CCS we are a family and strive to honor those who show love and kindness to others.
Matthew 25:40 ESV
[40] And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.
Preparing for SEW
Upper school students learned more this week from Mrs. Haynes and Mrs. Warden about plans for Spiritual Emphasis Week. This year's study, The Pause, will focus on prioritizing time with God while maintaining a busy schedule. As a part of SEW, students in grades 7-12 will also be heading out to spend a day serving others. SEW Serve Day will be at the Lovelady Center where the students will learn more about the ministry and work on tasks to help with their thrift stores.

Upper School SEW and Serve Day
We are so excited to spend this year’s SEW (Spiritual Emphasis Week) Serve Day volunteering at The Lovelady Center! The Lovelady Center works to help women and their children rebuild their lives both spiritually and physically. Through their services of providing food, shelter, and clothing, this ministry has a large impact for the Kingdom.
Upper school students (7th-12th) will be serving at The Lovelady Thrift Stores in Irondale and in Clay on Wednesday, March 25th.
I am so excited about this opportunity for students to reach a little further in serving others! Opportunities like this are so very important and impactful for growing our faith and understanding that God cares about all people. I am hopeful that this opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ will ignite a fire in each of their hearts to love and serve others.
Upper school students received a copy of the details/permission form for this event. (I have attached them below just in case the copy doesn't make it home!)
Permission forms need to be returned by Friday, March 20th.
On a related note, our staff is getting prepared and excited about this year’s study for SEW. During the week students and staff will be learning more about how to spend time growing their relationship with God while maintaining a busy schedule. The Pause is a 4-part study that will include teaching and small group discussions.
Our staff has been praying about SEW and we invite you to pray as well. We are looking forward to seeing God move in the hearts and minds of our students as they focus on spiritual growth and service to others!
Drawdown / Benefit Night
On April 30th CCS will be hosting a special event to raise funds for:
- Missions
- Building Expansion
- Athletics
Purpose and Mission
At CCS our purpose is to further the kingdom of God by preparing students to impact the world. We feel one way to do that is by supporting missions both close to home and internationally. With our purpose in mind, we will not keep all of the funds raised for ourselves but will tithe a portion back. We are partnering with One30 and a mission group that will be making a trip to Uganda this summer. The group will include several students from CCS; their family will be assisting missionaries to educate local families about hygiene and healthy lifestyles. They will be taking hygiene products to distribute and CCS will be helping to purchase some of these items as well as give a donation to One 30.
Ways to Give
To make fundraising engaging, age-appropriate, and fun for our students, we are using a Fundraising Bingo Card. Each square represents a small action that helps us reach our fundraising goals. When families complete squares, they are working toward prizes and celebrating their effort along the way. We will send these home next week!
Enrollment Season
Word of Mouth is Best!
Chances are, at some point, someone has asked you about CCS and why you chose the school for your children. Prospective families tell us often that they heard about the school from family or friends.
Do you have a story to share about what CCS has meant to your family or student?
We'd love to share it with others!

CHOOSE Act Funds for 2026-27
There are two application dates for the 2026-2027 academic year – one for renewing family applications and one for new family applications.
- A renewing family application pertains to a family with participating student(s) that received a CHOOSE Act ESA digital wallet for the 2025-2026 academic year. These families can renew current participating students and add siblings of participating students starting December 15, 2025, through the application deadline of March 31, 2026. A renewing family must renew. It is not an automatic renewal.
- A new family application pertains to a family that has not previously applied for CHOOSE Act Alabama; or a family applicant that applied for the 2025-2026 academic year but was either not awarded, or did not complete the award affidavit in ClassWallet. These families can apply starting on January 2, 2026, through the application deadline of March 31, 2026.
