Hello, Bobcat Families!

Our Special Friends Days were a wonderful celebration of the important people in our students’ lives. It was heartwarming to see our students proudly share their school, create meaningful memories, and spend time with the people who support them.

This week, our PTG will meet with homeroom parents as they begin planning a wonderful year of classroom celebrations and activities. We are also sharing information for parents and guardians who are interested in serving as classroom photographers. Please complete the form here if you are interested.

Please be sure you are registered for Membership Toolkit and that your family information is up to date. Membership Toolkit serves as our school directory and is the primary way homeroom parents and guardians will share information about classroom celebrations, parties, and volunteer opportunities. Keeping your information current will help ensure you receive important classroom updates throughout the year.

On Monday, we invite students and staff to wear Eagles gear or Indian Lane colors. On Tuesday, remember that it’s Picture Day! 📸

From the Desk of Ralph Harrison – Administrator for Safe & Inclusive Schools

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us keep our schools safe. As part of our updated visitor-entry procedures, all visitors must have their ID scanned before entering the building. Please plan to remain in the vestibule while security verifies the purpose of your visit with the main office.

These procedures apply to early dismissals, pickups from the nurse’s office, and scheduled meetings. Once your visit has been verified, security will provide direction about entering the building or meeting your child. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we consistently implement these important safety procedures.

Indian Lane has installed a Bobcat Playground Communication Station to ensure that every student has a way to communicate, connect, and participate during recess. The AAC board includes words and picture symbols that students can use to share needs, make choices, invite peers to play, and engage with adults and classmates. This addition reflects Indian Lane’s commitment to creating an inclusive playground where all students feel welcomed and supported.

Understanding Math Assessments & Progress Reporting

As we transition to our new elementary progress reports, you will notice some changes in how your child’s math assessments are scored and shared with you.

Topic Tickets are used throughout a module to help me understand what students know, identify skills that are still developing, and make decisions about instruction. Individual questions will be marked correct, partially correct, or incorrect. The purpose of a Topic Ticket is to provide information about learning while it is still taking place, so it will not receive an overall score.

A Parent Summary Slip will accompany each Topic Ticket. The slip identifies the specific skills your child is learning and shows which assessment questions provide evidence of each skill. Together, Topic Tickets and Parent Summary Slips can help us have more specific conversations about your child’s strengths, developing skills, and next steps for learning.

Module Assessments are given at the conclusion of a module and provide another opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding. The skills assessed will be reported using our new 3, 2, 1 Learning Indicators. These results, along with other evidence of your child’s learning, will help inform the Learning Indicators reported on the three progress reports in November, March, and June.

Our goal is to move the focus from “What percentage did my child earn?” to “What does my child understand, what is still developing, and what should they work on next?”

For more information about our new elementary progress reports and Learning Indicators, please visit the Elementary Progress Reports page on the RTMSD website.

A Message from Mrs. LaRose, the School Nurse A Message from Mrs. LaRose, the School Nurse

User uploaded image

Cold season is upon us and more and more students have been showing up in the nurse's office with stuffy noses, sore throats, sniffles and coughing.

Students are allowed in school with a cold, just keep in mind these guidelines:

  • Any temperature of 100°F or higher means the student stays home. They can return only after being fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine.
  • Mild sniffles are fine for school, but a deep, constant cough should stay home.
  • Students with sudden painful sore throats should stay home.
  • Also, keep them home if they are too tired or uncomfortable to focus on schoolwork.

Any questions, please reach out to Mrs. LaRose in the nurse's office.

Is anyone in your home scratching their head?

Here's a quick reminder about the district's Lice Management Plan.

Updated guidance for parents about head lice was recently published by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Click the link for everything you need to know about finding them and treating them.

Get in the habit of checking your student every couple of weeks and remind them not to share hats or put their heads together with other students. As always feel free to call the nurse's office if you have any questions.

I also want to highlight the importance of Membership Toolkit. This is the system we use to keep families connected for classroom parties, celebrations, and volunteer opportunities. Instead of relying on paper lists or sharing personal email addresses, Membership Toolkit keeps everything organized, secure, and private. You are always in control of the information you choose to share.

If families do not sign up, homeroom parents and other families will not have a way to contact them about class activities. Our PTG is working closely with us to encourage every family to participate. Once registered, you can download the free Membership Toolkit app to stay connected easily from your phone. Taking just a few minutes to create your profile will help ensure your child is included in all the fun at Indian Lane.

September Events & Holidays in RTMSD September Events & Holidays in RTMSD

A Collaborative Effort

Welcome to the 2026-27 School Year!

Parents, teachers, students, and administrators came together to learn about and discuss the cultural holidays and events observed throughout the school year. Together, they developed the list of holidays and events our schools will recognize, teach about, or celebrate. The selections featured in this newsletter reflect the voices and input of our community.

By learning about the cultures, traditions, and experiences represented in our community, we build greater understanding and acceptance of one another. This shared learning strengthens relationships and enhances each person’s sense of belonging in our schools.

Please select the “Resources” links to learn more.

Please email Ralph Harrison if you have any suggestions or ideas about our monthly events and holidays. We honor dignity by taking the time to learn about the cultures of all of our community members. The events/holidays are listed in the order they occur during the month. For more details, please click on the "Resources" links.
