4th Grade October Update
Happenings in 4th Grade October 2023
Math!
This month we are starting our unit on Multiplication. We will learn the Properties of Multiplication and learn different strategies to solve multi-digit by one digit , and two by two digit computations.
Please practice multiplication facts at home.
Reading and Language Arts!
Reading:
In reading we will be analyzing text structure and organization this month
Writing:
As we write this month, we will continue to focus on writing personal narratives.
Word Study:
10/2: Words with a short u sound such as fruit, crew, argue, and crumb.
10/9: Words with oo sounds such as bloom, tool, cookbook, and put.
10/16: Vowel sounds with /ou/ with words such as south, hawk, aloud, and faucet.
10/23: R controlled vowel words with words such as prepare, cheer, tear, and scarf.
Science and History!
Science:
In science this month we are exploring forms of energy, conductors and insulators, circuits and force! The acronym MELTS will help us remember the forms of energy and how they work in our world. We will test different insulators and conductors as we observe how energy moves. We will build circuits and learn how the paths of energy can change. We will explore the effect of force on objects. Our new concepts and vocabulary include: insulators and conductors for thermal and electrical energy, open and closed pathways for circuits, as well as friction and gravity for force.
History:
This month in Texas history we are learning about American Indian life in Texas. We will learn about the origins, similarities, and differences of American Indian life before European exploration. We will focus our study on the Lipan Apache, Karanakawa, Caddo, and Jumano. We will also learn about the American Indian groups still living in Texas such as the Ysleta Del Sur, Alabama-Coushatta and Kickapoo.
