NRMS Summer 2025 Reading List
In partnership with our faculty and district town librarians, our Librarian, Ms. Harvey, has put together an awesome reading list for this summer! Students who read at least four books as noted will receive a certificate, a prize, and a celebration in the fall. Please click this link NRMS Reading List to view/print the reading list, as well as the book tracker. Happy reading!
IMPORTANT UPDATE - Download Nauset App Today
The Nauset Public Schools will no longer be using ParentSquare for school-related communications. We have transitioned to Thrillshare, which is connected directly to our website. Please be sure to download the app and be on the lookout for school information to be sent via Thrillshare and the App.
Updates From The Principal
Hello NRMS Families,
I wanted to send a mid-summer update to provide some information and updates from the middle school. I hope that everyone is enjoying summer on Cape Cod and all that it has to offer. Here at the school we have been hosting the amazing Cape Cod Institute downstairs while upstairs, in our main hallway and front office, we are replacing the old carpet with new tile flooring. The school is going to look so good when staff and students return.
We have rolled over the schedule in Aspen to the 2025-2026 school year. This means that we can now finalize student schedules, which we will do over the next two weeks. In August we will let you know when student schedules are available to view in Aspen. While we do this work your access to Aspen is turned off so that we can correct any scheduling issues we may find as we do this final review before going "live."
As of today, we are nearly fully staffed for the upcoming school year. We have an opening for a permanent substitute teacher. We will post for this position soon. We have an opening for a second shift custodian. We also have openings in our Athletics Department for head coaching and assistant coaching positions for the fall. This includes openings for soccer and cross country. Please reach out if interested or notify anyone you know who may be interested in joining our team.
This summer, I encourage all parents to read The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt—a powerful and well-researched book that explores how the rise of smartphones and social media is impacting the mental health and development of our children. One of the book’s central messages is the importance of delaying smartphone access until at least age 13, allowing kids to develop key social, emotional, and cognitive skills without the constant pressure and distraction of digital life. In alignment with these ideas, our school will be strictly enforcing a no cell phone or smart watch use policy during the school day this year. I’ll also be hosting a community discussion in late August to talk about the book and how we can work together—school and families—to support healthier habits for our students. Stay tuned for more details!
Also new this year, we will be hosting three opportunities for all incoming students in Grade 6 and any new to Nauset students going into grades 7 or 8 to attend an information session where we will distribute Chromebooks to students. These meetings are tentatively scheduled for:
Monday August 25 at 4pm
Tuesday August 26 at 4pm
Friday August 29 at 9am
We will confirm the dates and times as we get closer that week. At these meetings, parents and students will sign off on the technology use agreement, receive their Chromebook, and have an opportunity to tour the school. Every student at NRMS is provided with a Chromebook that will be their device to bring back and forth from school to home for the three years at the middle school. It is imperative that students do whatever it takes to take care of this device and arrive at school with the device fully charged.
I am seeking some current 7th and 8th graders to become the NRMS CREW - a group of student-leaders who can assist with tours on these orientation days and throughout the school year. If your child is interested in becoming part of the Crew, please reach out and I will schedule a meeting to train them on their role as tour guides and ambassadors for our school as well as get T-Shirt sizes to order their official NRMS CREW gear.
Finally, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about a new initiative we’re launching this fall at the middle school! We are putting the finishing touches on a brand-new House System designed to build on the success of our Nauset ROCKS positive behavior program and the structure of Nauset Time. This year, Nauset Time groups will be smaller—each adult in the building, including me, will mentor a group of six to eight students who will meet every Monday to set goals and plan for the week ahead. The rest of the week will include time for extra help, catching up on assignments, or fun enrichment activities. Fridays will feature assemblies, mini-lessons, and skill-building experiences. Every student will belong to a Nauset Time group, and each group will be part of one of four Houses. During the first week of school, we’ll host a much-anticipated House Reveal—think Harry Potter meets Nauset—where students will find out which House they’ll join. From there, the competition begins! Houses will earn points throughout the year for academic effort, school spirit, attendance, and living out our Nauset ROCKS values, all in pursuit of the coveted Nauset Cup. Once placed, students will remain in their House throughout middle school, building deep connections and pride along the way. We can’t wait to share more—it’s going to be an incredible year!
