Message from Mrs. Hill

My name is Nicole Hill, and I’m so excited to begin my 3rd year as the counselor at Parkway. With 17 years of experience in education and 11 years specifically as a school counselor, I have a wealth of knowledge and expertise to bring to the community, but I’m excited to continue learning and growing at Parkway. I truly believe when our students social and emotional needs are met then deep learning can begin. I look forward to meeting our new families and getting to know our community and collaborating with you to help your child grow socially, emotionally, and academically! One of my goals this year is to introduce our students to post secondary education and career opportunities and the skills needed to be successful in and outside of the classroom.

What Does Mrs. Hill Do?

I work with students, families, and staff in a variety of ways to support students' social, emotional, and academic success.

  • Classroom Lessons: Teachers can request classroom lessons throughout the school year on topics that meet the needs of their students.
  • Small Group Counseling: Parents and teachers may refer students to participate in small groups that typically meet for 6–8 weeks. Group topics may include grief, worry and anxiety, emotional regulation, executive functioning, family changes, problem-solving, friendship skills, and more.
  • Short-Term Individual Counseling: Parents and teachers may also refer students for short-term individual counseling to address specific needs. Support may focus on topics such as grief, worry and anxiety, emotional regulation, executive functioning, family changes, problem-solving, and other social-emotional concerns.

In addition, I can connect families with community resources for services such as ongoing counseling, crisis intervention, financial assistance, and other support programs.

What is Connect?

As the school year gets underway you may hear your children mention Connect. Connect is a 55 minute block of time built into our daily schedule. Each grade level has connect once a week and students spend half the time completing a character lesson with either myself or one of our specials teachers (we all teach the same lesson each week from Character Strong) and then the other half of the time is spent in PE. Using this model I am able to visit with each of our classes every 3 weeks!

Character Strong

The character education curriculum to support our Comprehensive Counseling program is Character Strong. The month of August we will be focusing on Kindness. See the parent newsletters below for more information. I've included an introductory letter for Character Strong as well as the Kindness Kick Off parent newsletter. My hope is that you will use the information in the monthly newsletter to talk with your children about the character traits and skills they are learning.
