Help Wanted:
We are always looking for help and support with a variety of things happening at Meadow Croft. Currently, we are looking for some people for very different types of activities. Maybe you can lend a hand or volunteer for some of these events! Bring your spouse, your kids or your friends! We'd love to have you and it is all for a good cause. 🙂
Spring Clean-up: On April 5th, we are looking for those individuals who like to work with their hands and are not afraid of getting dirty! The BBPHA is looking to clean out the Carriage House on the Meadow Croft property. We also are doing some garden clean-up. If interested, please bring rakes, clippers, gloves and a strong back! The fun starts at 10:00AM. We need you!

Frank Giebfried!
A big THANK YOU to our local historian and BBPHA board member Frank Giebfried! Frank recently gave an informative and creative presentation to a large group at the BBP Library for our monthly general membership meeting. Frank has exceptional research skills and presents all information in a fun and interactive way. Frank's March presentation was on Avery's Five Mile Look. This was a beautiful resort located at the end of Blue Point Ave and built in 1913. It's always great to learn more about the community you live in.
Come check out Frank's new presentation on May 15, 2025. This is on a Thursday night and will begin at 7:00 at the BBP Library. A trivia type event called: So You Think You Know Bayport & Blue Point? This sounds like another fun event. Hope to see you there! Thank you Frank for sharing our history!

Folger Street
These articles first appeared in the Bayport Blue Point Gazette. They were written by Gene Horton and reprinted here with permission.
December 2010
This Bayport street's name has nothing to do with "the best part of waking up is FOLGER'S in your cup!"
William B. Folger was for many years a 19th century summer resident of Bayport. His name lives on today: FOLGER STREET in Bayport is named for him. Folger Street extends east from Bayport Ave., past Kensington Ave. and ends at North Ocean Ave. in Bayport. Folger Street was dedicated as a Town of Islip roadway in July 1915.
Anyway, Mr. Folger had a summer home, "Linden Cottage," in Bayport and, starting around 1872, he and his family spent four to five months a year here during the summer. Today, the Linden tree is long-gone but that picturesque house is still located at 647 Middle Road, Bayport. The 1888 map of Bayport indicates that this was the Folger home, located on the northwest corner of Ocean Ave. and Middle Road. Their year-round home was in Brooklyn at 84 South Third Street. The 1888 map also shows that Mr. Folger owned two large parcels of property of about 20 acres on the east side of Bayport Ave. approximately where Folger St. is located today.
Mr. Folger's wife's name was Mary Ann Floger and he had one daughter, Mary. He was regarded as a very kind, respected and a widely admired man in both Brooklyn and Bayport. At the time of his death in 1889, Mr. Folger was 76 years old. He was a steel plate engraver by trade and also a main-stay in the city printing business. His office was located for over 40 years at 99 John Street in New York City. When he retired around 1880, he turned his business over to his son-in-law, William B. Pell, who had married his daughter Mary.
Mr. Folger was one of the oldest members of the Amity Lodge of Free & Associated Masons of NYC and his obituary in the Brooklyn EAGLE mentioned he was a man of "ample means." On February 8, 1889, William B. Folger was interred in the Green-wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. Mrs. Folger died in 1895. His name lives on in Bayport today thanks to Folger Street.
