Message from Our Principal
Hello Mountain View Family,
The teachers and students are working very hard this month to prepare for the upcoming STAAR, MAP and CIRCLE testing. In addition to class instruction, teachers are reviewing many topics students have learned during the school year including difficult concepts such as fractions, division, author's purpose, summarization, and short response writing. Thank you for the assistance you are giving them at home.
April 10, 16, and 23 are STAAR testing days so parents will not be able to eat with their students. Teachers will eat with their classes on these days.
I have attached the upcoming events for the remainder of the school year. Please mark your calendar for our Science Night in May. Students and families have a lot of fun at this event. I hope you can join us!
Until next month,
LaBecca Thompson
Principal, Mountain View ES

Counselor's Corner
Grades Pre-K - 2:
This month, we have been learning about the character trait of Trustworthiness.
Being trustworthy is making personal choices that build trust, including honesty and integrity. It is essential to building positive relations with others.
Our pre-k through 2nd-grade students have enjoyed learning about trustworthiness by reading Judy Sierra's book βTell the Truth BB Wolf.β The Book illustrates that when we make a mistake like being dishonest, we can always make it right by taking responsibility and telling the truth even when itβs hard.
Grades 3-5
I cannot believe this year is passing by so fast. In classroom guidance, we are continuing to work through our planned classroom activities. In Third grade we finished our self-regulation book and now we are adding Physical, Cognitive, and Emotional Self-regulating strategies to our toolbox. In Fourth grade we are putting our study of Assertiveness skills into practice. In Fifth we are also practicing Assertiveness skills along with all the things needed to get our students registered for Middle School.

Family Engagement
Plants
Students love watching plants grow. Our classes have been studying about plants, animals, and habitats. Growing a plant is an easy way to share in the learning at home. Here are some videos to share with your child, and join in the fun, whether you decide to grow one plant from a bean seed (pinto beans work great) or from a live plant you get from a nursery. Students are sure to enjoy this with you!
