OWL NEWS
VOLUME 8 - NOVEMBER 15, 2025
Owl Families,
As we approach the season of gratitude, we’re inviting families to recognize the educators who make a difference in their child’s life every day. If there’s a teacher, staff member, or anyone at Riverside School who has gone above and beyond to support your child, please take a moment to share your gratitude! Simply fill out our short form, and we’ll pass your messages along to the educators. Your words of appreciation not only lift spirits, but also remind our team of the positive impact they have on our community. Let's celebrate the dedication and care that make Riverside such a special place to learn and grow!
With much love and respect,
Ms. Kama-Starr and Mr. Cohen

STAY IN THE GAME
We’re excited to kick off our new attendance initiative at Riverside—Stay in the Game, in partnership with the Cleveland Browns! This program is all about encouraging our scholars to be in school every single day and celebrating those who show up consistently.
For the month of October, we’re proud to recognize scholars who achieved 100% attendance. These dedicated students will be honored with:
- Their names proudly displayed on our Owl Stars bulletin board
- A special certificate celebrating their perfect attendance
And that’s not all—one lucky scholar from this group was selected at random for a special surprise recognition! Congrats to Adrian from Ms. Reno's class who is our October Owl-Star!
Let’s stay in the game, Riverside!
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL REMINDERS
Recently, there has been an increase of families not following our Arrival and Dismissal procedures. It is essential that we all follow the established guidelines. Doing so will keep everyone safe and set a positive example for our scholars.
As a reminder:
- Please DO NOT block any of our neighbors' driveways at any point during Arrival or Dismissal.
- Please follow all parking/traffic laws.
- Please DO NOT cut across from Glencliffe Rd. to Montrose Ave.
- Please be kind to each other, the neighbors, and our educators.
- Please DO NOT park in the parking lot during dismissal.
All of our Arrival and Dismissal procedures can be found below.
DROP-OFF (Arrival)
-
Drop-off begins at 9:15 AM.
-
This is a rolling line: Pull up → Scholars hop out → Families drive off.
-
Please ensure your child is ready to exit the vehicle quickly and safely when you reach the drop-off zone.
PICK-UP (Dismissal)
-
Dismissal begins at 3:55 PM.
-
Pick-up also follows a rolling line model: Pull up → Display your pick-up card on your dashboard → Wait for your child to be brought to you.
PICK-UP CARDS
- All families must complete [THIS FORM] to receive updated pick-up cards.
-
All adults picking up scholars must have a pick-up card displayed.
-
If you don’t have a card, you will be asked to show ID.
-
If your child is riding with another Riverside family, that family must have a card for each child they are picking up.
-
Cards from last year will not be accepted—all adults picking up will need newly printed cards for the 2025–2026 school year.
NEW THIS YEAR -- Any family choosing to walk to Riverside to pick up their child, will need to pick them up, with a pick up card, from the cafeteria door. No families will be permitted to stand in front of the main entrance nor enter the main office from 3:30-4:05PM.
TRAFFIC FLOW & SAFETY
-
Follow the traffic map carefully and enter the car line from Warren Road and Montrose Avenue.
-
Do NOT enter from Glencliffe Road—this entrance is for bus riders only.
-
Scholars will enter and exit only on the curbside of your vehicle.
-
Do not block driveways, crosswalks, or park in our neighbors’ driveways.
-
The school parking lot is closed to families during arrival and dismissal.
The playground is closed to families and scholars during arrival and dismissal
RIVERSIDE -2- RIVERSIDE GIVING TREE
The Riverside-2-Riverside Giving Tree event will be back for its 8th year. For those of you new to Riverside, our Giving Tree event is an opportunity for our school community to come together to support some of our Owl families.
As a staff, we will identify approximately 30 scholars to support. We provide each scholar with a casual outfit, hooded sweatshirt, pajamas, boots/sneakers, underwear, socks, hat, gloves, scarf, and a toy or gift card. In fact, over the course of the next week or so we will be contacting the families that have been selected.
Our goal each year is to take a few items off a family's holiday wish list so that they may focus on other important expenses.
We are currently working to develop partnerships, like the one we have established with Boss Chick N' Beer. Each year they have helped us by sponsoring a number of scholars.
Interested in donating? Please be on the lookout for more information in the November 30th Owl News.
If you have questions please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Kama-Starr or Ms. Davis.
Here's to a magical holiday season!
WINTER WEATHER AND OUTDOOR RECESS
With the weather getting colder we want to remind all families that our goal is to get outside for recess everyday, even when it's cold. Please make sure that your PreK-8th graders come prepared to go outside for approximately 20 minutes each day of the week. Thanks!
A NOTE FROM MR. PAUL
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through November already! This is a reminder about our winter concerts coming up in just a few short weeks. Thursday, December 4th will be PreK-2nd grade, Tuesday, December 9th will be 3rd-5th grade, and Thursday, December 11th will be 6th-8th grade. All concerts will begin promptly at 6:00p in the gymnasium, and all students need to be at the school at 5:30p. Each child is required to be in attendance at their concert. This information was sent home in a letter the first week of school, posted on every teacher’s Class Dojo page, sent out in the Riverside newsletter at the beginning of the year, and is also on the Class Dojo calendar. The dress code will be as follows:
- Nice blue, white, or black clothes. No logos, holes, sweatpants, hoodies, or crocs.
The students have all been working very hard on their songs, and we are all excited to share them with the Riverside community! Please reach out to me directly via Class Dojo with any questions that you have. Thank you so much for your continued support of the growing music program here at Riverside.

Their energy and enthusiasm helped make the event a joyful celebration for everyone. 🎉
