Principal's Newsletter
by Robin D. Croteau April 10, 2026
Spring has sprung and students are eager to spend more time outside! We will begin letting students go out to the playground at 7:45 a.m. on Monday, April 13th. Please remember when dropping your child off that if you intend to park and get out of the car, you should pull off to the left before entering the drop off line. An important note of caution; we are reserving the gaga pit for grade-level recesses only. Please make sure that students are dressed for chillier mornings an warmer afternoons.
Report cards will be going home today and we are in our final quarter. Next Friday we will hold our third quarter student recognition ceremony. As we shared earlier in the week, have decided as a staff to do 4th Quarter Fun Fridays! Each Friday will be a different dress up theme from now until the end of the school year. While participation is voluntary we encourage everyone to join in the fun! Today was Sports Day and many staff and students showed up in everything from Red Sox to LCS sports apparel!
Administration has been working closely with the school board to make the voted upon cuts to the proposed school budget for the upcoming school year. One area we had to greatly reduce was our supply line. Towards the middle of May, students will receive a supply list from their upcoming teacher. We hope to be able to make these lists available to parents via our website but will have copies available in the main office as well. We are hoping that by getting these out before students leave for the summer, parents will have time to shop for the best deals!
Sullivan County Dental Will Be Here Next Week!
The Sullivan County Dental Initiative is coming early to LCS! We were originally scheduled for them to give dental cleaning/screening, cavity prevention and guidance on oral hygiene beginning in May. They had an opening in their schedule and will be setting up on Monday, April 13th and providing care on the 14th and 15th. It is not too late to sign up. Forms are still available in the main office. This care works in conjunction with your child's regular dentist. Please don't miss out on this cost-free opportunity for your child!
Changes For Next Year Will Affect LCS Transportation Services
With one quarter left to go, administration and staff at LCS are in planning mode for the 2026/2027 school year. One of our biggest anticipated changes will be to our transportation needs. First and foremost, budget cuts have resulted in the loss of our before school program. Beginning next fall, the school will no longer be able to provide "before school care" to students from 7:30 to 8 a.m. Students will not be able to enter the building for breakfast until 8:00 a.m. We anticipate this change could lead to more students needing to ride the bus in the morning.
Lempster School District is exploring in-house resources and looking into the possibility of providing bussing to Fall Mountain Regional High School for our high school students. In order to begin creating a bus routes, we would like as much information as possible about our anticipated transportation needs. Please take a moment and fill out this transportation survey. This information will allow us time to create the most feasible transportation plan for next year. Thank you in advance for your participation!
Crazy For Math Computations!
It's no secret that here at LCS, Superintendent Lewis loves having the opportunity to work with students on mastering their math facts! He challenges them to complete one hundred problems in five minutes time with no more than one error. Any student who is successful gets a T-shirt! For the older grades he has more difficult challenges including multiplication & division and a challenge intended to show proficiency making change from a dollar.
Over the last week and a half we have had SIX elementary students accept Mr. Lewis's challenge and earn a shirt for themselves! In second grade Brinley Jangel, Georgia Bailey, Kason Ciesla, and Gabe Brennar completed the challenge . In third grade we had Emmy LaRocque and Aurora Colby. As the weather warms up we hope hand out more T-shirts like the one featured here to our budding mathematicians!
