BOOK WEEK PARADE
Yesterday, we celebrated Book Week - Queenies style! Staff and students alike dressed in their favourite book characters, and what a collection of characters we had! From Where’s Wally (and there were a lot of them) to Harry Potter to a myriad of Princesses from every land, our students (and staff) jumped right into their favourite books. I’d like to thank Mrs O’Brien who co-ordinated our Bookweek by arranging the parade and organising an author to visit our school. It is her passion that ignites the library and makes it such an inviting place for our children. Thank you also to our parents who worked so hard on designing and making the costumes for the children. They all looked amazing.
WELLNESS WEEK
We’re half-way through the term and right in the middle of Wellness Week. This week has been a great opportunity for our students, staff and parents to wind down for a few days…and not worry about homework, meetings etc. Enjoy your last few days without homework.
YEAR 1 LITURGY
Year 1 will be celebrating their class liturgy on Tuesday. This Liturgy will give the students the opportunity to reflect on how they can show gratitude through prayer. Year 1 parents are invited to join their child in this liturgy and to deepen their understanding of the Religious Education program in Year 1.
EUCHARIST WORKSHOP
Is for parents and students in Year 4 who will be celebrating their First Holy Communion later this term. This is organised by the Parish and will start at 5.30pm on Wednesday 27 August in the Parish Hall. We look forward to seeing parents and students on the night.
REMINDER
We have an extra-long weekend scheduled this weekend. Tomorrow, the staff will be using the day to follow up on their professional requirements. On Monday 25 August, we have our Catholic Day which recognises the extra commitments that staff in Catholic schools make towards the preparation and celebration of the faith journey of students at Queen of Apostles. Both days are Pupil Free Days.
Regards,
Jennifer Anderson

MUSIC NEWS
Catholic Performing Arts Festival
The Catholic Performing Arts Festival commences this term, and I would like to wish our entries all the best as they participate in this wonderful festival. I have included a schedule outlining dates for students who have entered.
Please remember, it is the parent’s responsibility to transport their child to their Instrumental or Vocal Performance. Students are required to be there at least 15 minutes before their session.
Each student is to prepare a brief introduction before their item including their name, school name and name of their piece of music. Please encourage your child to practice this beforehand.
Students are to wear their academic winter school uniform for their performance. School jumpers are preferred as opposed to their winter jackets. Please ensure that if your child requires a backing track, that you have your own mobile device and speaker ready to play, preferably Bluetooth or wireless. No CDs please.
All parents / guardians must purchase a ticket to attend the performance. Please note, tickets will not be sold at the door. Tickets for the 36th Performing Arts Festival are available to purchase from FRIDAY 4TH JULY. All ticketing links can be found via the Spirit of the Arts website https://www.spiritofthearts.com.au/performing-arts-festival/, under each festival section.
Kind regards
Sheryl Perry
Canteen Volunteers
Our canteen manager, Sharon is in need of assistance on Thursday and Friday mornings. If you can spare an hour or two on either of these days, please see Sharon. A reminder that the Volunteers Form will need to be filled out if it hasn’t already been submitted this year. Due to Child Safety regulations, only parents can volunteer in the canteen – friends or grandparents require a Working With Children Card.
Parking and Drive Thru Arrangements
A reminder for everyone to be aware of our parking and drive through arrangements at the front of the school as the safety of our children is of paramount importance.
- Vehicles will enter via the middle driveway on Tribute St East.
- If you wish to park and leave your car to come into the school, please turn to the left and park in one of the bays adjacent to the Early Learning Centre or use the marked roadside bays outside the school.
- When exiting the car park, you will do so at the exit closest to Vahland Ave.
- If you are only dropping-off or picking-up, then please veer right and enter the drive-thru area. In this area you may not park or leave your vehicle unattended - it is strictly drop-off or pick- up only!
- When exiting the drive-thru section you will use the exit closest to Tudor Ave.
- Children waiting to be picked up are to wait on the verandah, under teacher supervision, and when they see their parent’s car enter the drive-thru, they may proceed down the steps at either end of the ramp and wait on the footpath adjacent to the bay where their parent has pulled up.
- Children should enter vehicles from the curbside only to avoid passing vehicles.
Volunteering
The Government of WA have amended the Working with Children Act last year with the changes implemented to better protect children. Catholic Education WA has mandated this process for all volunteers, including parent volunteers in schools. This includes parents who wish to volunteer at sports carnivals, in classrooms and at P&F events. Could we ask that all parents fill in the Volunteer Declaration (link) even if you have no plans at this stage to volunteer at school. If you filled out the form last year you will need to do it again this year. Parents who wish to assist teachers on excursions will need to be on this list. Your information will be stored securely in accordance with CEWA’s Information Stewardship. We highly value parent volunteers' time and contribution to our school community and thank-you for taking the time to submit the form below.
Any grandparents that wish to volunteer in the classroom or assist in the canteen will need a Working With Children Check. Please note this does not include drop off, pick up or attendance at our Grandparents Mass and Morning Tea. Grandparents that would like to volunteer at school, please contact the school office and we can assist you in the process.

We have a great selection of items for sale, ranging from $1 - $6. Classes will be sent over to the undercover area, one at a time to make their purchases. To ensure there are enough items for all the classes we ask that children limit the amount they are buying to 1 item each. Cash only (EFTPOS not available). Please BYO bag. Dental health - Keep your child's teeth healthy
Teeth help children to eat, speak and smile. Regularly brushing teeth can prevent bad breath, tooth decay, and gum diseases.
Parents and guardians can help children to keep their teeth clean. Some tips are:
• Children below 6 years can use small smear (small pea sized) amount of low fluoride children’s toothpaste
• Children 6 years and older can use pea-sized amounts of standard fluoride toothpaste
• Encourage children to brush their teeth morning and night, and supervise tooth brushing until they are 8 or 9 years old
• Use an age-appropriate toothpaste and toothbrush
• Educate children about healthy eating habits and limit sugary foods and drinks
• Encourage them to choose water as their preferred drink
For more details, see 5-8 years, 9-11 years, and 12-18 years by Raising Children Network or School Dental Service, Government of Western Australia.
The School Dental Service offers free general and emergency dental care to eligible children aged 5-16 or until the end of year 11 (whichever comes first). Find your nearest School Dental Service Clinic or contact Dental Services on 9313 0555 for further information.
Raising Children Network
Children are as individual and as different as their parents and making decisions about what’s best for raising children is very personal.
The Raising Children website offers up-to-date, research-based material on more than 800 topics spanning child development, behaviour, health, nutrition and fitness, play and learning, connecting and communicating, school and education, entertainment and technology, sleep and safety.
It covers grown-ups, newborns (0-3 months), babies (3-12 months), toddlers (1-3 years), preschoolers (3-5 years), school-age children (5-9 years), pre-teens (9-11 years), and early teens (12-15 years).
There are tips, videos and other useful resources.
The Raising Children Network provides information that can help parents with the day-to-day decisions of raising children. It also provides information to help parents and carers look after their own needs. The information is based on the best science in parenting, child health and development, presented in language we can all understand.
This is a website for Australian mothers, fathers, grandparents and anyone else who has responsibility for the care of children. www.raisingchildren.com.au
