#7 - Weekly Charger Newsletter
Week 5 Wrap Up
Dear Charger Families,
Today's Friday Flag and Charger of the Month was a great turn out and it was wonderful to celebrate many students who have shown Respect, Responsibility, and Safety at school!
Next Friday, September 25th, there is no Friday Flag. We will have Principal's Coffee at 8:15am to review Conference Week Expectations and Amplify CKLA (our new ELA / ELD curriculum). After this meeting, we have the Homestead HS Marching Band doing a performance for our students from 9:15am-9:30am. For families who join Principal's Coffee, you are all welcome to join us for this performance after!

Smartwatches - In Backpacks During School Day
We want every student to stay focused and present during the school day! As part of that effort, students with smartwatches will be reminded each morning to put them away in their backpacks; and they'll stay there until the end of the school day.
This is in line with our SESD Technology Use Policy, which states that students shall not use smartphones or other mobile communication devices (this includes smartwatches):
- While at a school site
- During the school day
- While under the supervision and control of a District employee
We appreciate your partnership in helping reinforcing this at home with a quick conversation and reminders with your child. Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students engaged and focused. 😀
September is Attendance Awareness Month!
Every Day Counts! Being at school every day matters, even in the earliest grades. Students are building new skills, friendships, routines, and connections each day they are here.
School Site Council
Our next School Site Council Meeting is on Tuesday, September 22nd at 3pm in Room 9 (Zoom link available on agenda). In this meeting, we will be reviewing and approving the 2026-2027 SPSA (School Plan for Student Achievement).
The agenda will be posted 72 hours prior to each SSC Meeting.
For all SSC meetings, please check the school website for agendas, meeting information, and prior meeting minutes.
ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee)
Our English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a group of parents, family members, and staff who work together to support our English Learner students and strengthen our school programs. We are looking for parents and family members of English Learners to join us for our first meeting on September 24, where we will review the purpose of ELAC and how families can be involved. We will also nominate ELAC members to serve as officers for the school year.
Ms. Field sent a message through ParentSquare to all families of English Learners on Thursday, September 10 with a short interest form to complete.
Conference Week October 5th-9th
Please be sure to sign up for a conference with your student's teacher for the week of October 5th-9th. Teachers are communicating through Parent Square so please check these important messages. In some grade levels, we do want students to be a part of this meeting, so please verify with the teacher if your child should attend.
We are aiming for 100% of our families to join for conference week!

Join us as we launch a galaxy of great reads—thank you for helping our students’ love of reading reach new heights!
NWEA Fall Benchmark Family Reports
Our 1st-5th grade students completed the Fall NWEA Benchmark in Math and Reading. Printed reports were sent home this week by all classroom teachers. Please keep these reports as they will be discussed during your child's conference (week of October 5th).
Reoccurring Information & Reminders:
Daily Belongings & Item Drop-Offs
Please ensure your child arrives each morning with everything they need for the day (lunch, water bottle, jacket, homework, etc.). To minimize classroom disruptions, office staff cannot deliver forgotten items to students during school hours.
If you must drop off a forgotten item:
Use the Drop-Off Cart: We have a cart our office staff will put the items for your child to pick up.
Remind Your Child: Instruct your child to check the cart during breaks or lunch (outside of the office hallway door).
Teacher Notification: You may email the teacher as a heads-up, but please note they may not see messages while instructing.
Reminder for K-3 Friday Early Dismissal:
When picking up your K-3 student at 12:45pm on Fridays, please remember that our 4th and 5th grade students are still in class. Please pick up your child and then immediately exit campus. There is also an active PE class occurring on the blacktop during this time, so please be mindful of this and walk around the blacktop area. Thank you for understanding!
