The Golden Apple
November 2025

Let's head out for break on a strong note. We are Round Lake!
Change in Athletic Admission Fees
Beginning this winter season, the District will no longer charge admission for most athletic competitions. The exceptions are football, IHSA state series, and select special events.
We made this decision following a recent review of revenues and expenses for middle and high school athletic events. In many cases, we found that charging admission was not cost effective and may have served as a barrier to student and community attendance at our students' events.
Our Text Number Changed!
Our vendor for sending you text messages has updated our phone number. You may notice our outreach text messages are now being sent from a local 10-digit phone number.
Our new text message number for outreach is 847-200-5862. We recommend saving it in your contacts as RLAS-116 Alerts so you can recognize our messages. Please note we will not receive any texts sent to this number - this is only for outgoing texts to our families.
Why the Change?
Our mass communications vendor, Finalsite, is moving away from short codes in favor of local phone numbers. Local numbers are more familiar and trusted by recipients, which we hope improves message delivery and recognition.
This change applies only to mass text messages.
Thank you for staying connected with us — we’re committed to making sure you receive timely and clear communication from RLAS-116.
Twilight Tutoring
Our Twilight Tutoring program is officially open to qualifying K-12 students.
Twilight Tutoring is an opportunity for students who are having difficulty in a subject to receive one-on-one tutoring after school hours Monday-Friday and Saturday-Sunday.
At the elementary level, students with a 0 or 1 in any core subject area (math, English or Spanish Language Arts, Science, or Social Studies) can receive tutoring in that subject for 30 minutes each week. Tutoring is available in English, or Spanish through a bilingual teacher.
Students in grades 6-12 may sign up for one 30-minute tutoring session each week in English or Spanish Language Arts, math, science and social studies, if they have a D or an F in the subject.
At the High School, tutoring is also available daily in the Panther Den during the school day in multilingual education, math, science and writing for students who are struggling. You can find more information on daily tutoring assistance for high school students on our website.
Students and parents must sign up through Calendly by selecting the student’s grade and the subject. Students may receive assistance from any Round Lake teacher available through the Twilight Tutoring program, even if they are not a teacher at that student’s school. Students and parents can find Twilight Tutoring Calendly links on our website.
You must make and cancel appointments through Calendly. Each teacher has different daily/hourly availability. Please note that due to the limited availability of tutors, if a student misses three sessions without notice or cancellation, they will no longer be able to use the tutoring service.
Students must sign up for tutoring themselves or with a parent’s assistance. Teachers will not sign students up for Twilight tutoring.
Please see below for information on how to schedule a session and how to cancel or reschedule a session.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Katherine Wishau, Teaching and Learning Coordinator at kwishau@rlas-116.org.
