CHAPTER 5: THE BEST YEAR EVER
We are so excited to kick off a fantastic year of learning and growth in 5th grade!
We’ve heard such wonderful things about this group of students, and we are truly excited to welcome them to 5th grade.
As a teaching team, we bring a wide range of strengths and experience and we work closely together to create a consistent, supportive environment where students can thrive.
We believe learning should be meaningful and rooted in what’s best for kids. With your partnership and our shared commitment, we’re ready for a year filled with growth, discovery, and lots of excitement!
You’ve placed your trust in us, and we don’t take that lightly. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your child’s journey this year at Reeves.

In addition, only water is allowed in student water bottles inside the classroom-Reeves Policy. Please do not send juice, protein drinks or other drinks for snack time.
Healthy options are best! Here are some ideas
- Crackers
- Pretzels
- Granola bars

- Graham crackers
- Dry, non-sugary cereal
- Cheese sticks
MAP TESTING
Each year, all Reeves students in 2nd - through 5th grade take the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress – or MAP – assessments in the fall, winter and spring. MAP is a national test that helps us see how each student learns, as we know every student learns in his or her own way.
Within students will be completing the Math, Science, and Reading MAP tests. Please note this is not like the STAAR test. Students will be taking their test during the time they normally have the subject. Please see the schedule in the Important Dates section below.

CURRICULUM FOR NEXT WEEK
What to Expect Next Week
Since we are kicking off a brand-new school year, our main focus next week across all subjects will be establishing classroom procedures, setting up our interactive learning journals, and building our classroom community through hands-on introductory lessons. These foundational activities will help students feel confident, organized, and ready for the exciting curriculum ahead!
Future newsletters will have the curriculum broken down by subject area.
