PCH Community Update

2025-2026: The Weeks of August 25 & September 1

PCH CommunityUpdate2025-2026: The Weeks of August 25 & September 1

Overview

PCH Community,

I hope you are enjoying this gorgeous late summer weather and the much needed break from the heat. As we settle into the routine of the school year, this two week edition of PCH Community Update inclues several time senstive items...

  • School Picture Day is tomorrow, Monday, August 25 for current 9th, 10th and 11th graders. Order info is below. Pictures will be taken during English classes.
  • Open House for parents is Thursday, August 28 beginning at 6:30 pm. Details below.
  • PSAT info is also included for current 10th & 11th grade students. Details below.
  • Spur Yearbooks are now on sale. Purchase by Sunday, August 31 for the best price.
  • Class of 2026 families have multiple grade specific items to review.
  • Class of 2027 families have class ring info included.
  • Dual Credit Program registration is now open. Registration closes in a few weeks.

This week, Central High will begin full implementation of three important policies and practices:

  • Student Attendance: As a school district, we believe that daily student attendance (i.e. being at school and in class on time) is foundational to the academic success of students. As a reminder to parents and guardians, please contact the appropriate grade level office when your student is absent from school (names, emails and telephone number are at the bottom of this Update). Missouri law and Parkway policy (JE.BP) requires the school to keep accurate daily attendance records. Per disctrict policy and building practice, students with unexcused absences and unexcused tardies may receive after detentions and / or assignment to in-school suspension.
  • Student Use of Cell Phones & Personal Electronic Devices: Information on this new policy was shared in the last Update and is included below. This week, we will begin full implementation of the new district policy, the bottom line of which is this: cell phones and other personal electronic devices (i.e. smartwatches, laptops, iPads, tablets and wireless headphones) are expected to be off and away from 7:35 am - 2:30 pm, including class time, passing periods, and lunch shifts. Students in violation of the policy may have their device collected by a staff member. Collected devices should be picked up by the student at the end of the school from the student's grade level administrator or designee. Students, we had a good start with this last week; thank you, in advance, for your continued cooperation.
  • Student Travel in Academic Lab: "Ac Lab" is an important part of the high school schedule in Parkway because it provides students and staff additional time during the school day to focus on academic support, community connections, and other building needs. Ac Lab is scheduled during 4th block on Even Days. For more information about Ac Lab, click HERE. For Ac Lab on 8/27 & 8/29, students will only be able to travel during Module 2. Reminder: students are expected to sign up for their Mods by 11:59 pm the night before Ac Lab. Students who do not sign up will be assigned to a classroom with one of their teachers. For directions on how to sign up, click HERE.

Also included in this two week Update is information on the following...

  • Calendar Reminders
  • Game Guidelines
  • PCH Athletic Passes
  • PG 2026: Homecoming Tailgate
  • Free & Reduced Meal Program
  • Find Your Bus Stop
  • Student Parking for 2025-2026
  • Parkway Cell Phone & Device Policy

  • Parents: PTO Leadership Board

The next Update will be shared on Sunday, September 7, 2025. As a reminder, PCH Community Update is the school newsletter shared with students and parents throughout the school year. For much of the content, students are the primary audience. Parents, please encourage your student to regularly check their Parkway email account to review new updates. Thank you for your support and, as always, Go Colts!

Sincerely,

Tim McCarthy

Principal, PCH

Parkway Cell Phone & Device Policy Parkway Cell Phone & Device Policy

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map Show in original size

Several times in the past month, Parkway School District has shared information regarding the district's new policy for student use of cell phones and personal electronic devices during the school day. The updated policy was in response to legislation passed in Missouri in early July. If you have not already done so, please take several moments to review that information HERE. The bottom line is this: cell phones and other personal electronic devices (i.e. smartwatches, laptops, iPads, tablets and wireless headphones) are expected to be off and away from 7:35 am - 2:30 pm, including class time, passing periods, and lunch shifts.

Students, I recognize that, for many, this new policy provokes many thoughts and strong emotions. At home, my youngest daughter is starting her senior year in high school; she has already shared with me many of the sentiments that I am sure align with your own. I am empathetic to the challenges of this change! With that said, I also hope that you will take several moments to consider why this change is happening. States and school districts across the country are simply responding to a growing body of research that indicates that personal electronic devices in schools, especially cell phones, negatively impact student learning in multiple ways. I know you may not like the new policy, but I ask for your support and cooperation with its implementation.

Parents, I recognize this will be a significant change for you, as well. As I mentioned, my youngest will be a senior in high school, while my oldest is starting her second year in college. For the last several years, my wife and I texted our daughters during the school day to remind them of an important item on their to do list, wish them luck on a test, or provide guidance to a situation they were navigating. I always felt guilty when one of them would respond, "I'm in class!" I thought to myself, "I'm a high school principal; I should know better!" The new policy will be a change for us too, but given the rationale behind it, I ask for your support and cooperation, as well. As a reminder, if you need to communicate with your student during the school day, you have a couple of options:

  • Send them an email to their Parkway email account, which they can check using their district issued Chromebook.
  • Contact their gradel leve office; at the bottom of every PCH Community Update are the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of our grade level administrators and their assistants.

At the bottom of the graphic above is a green check mark above each of these three goals: improved mental health, focused learning, stronger relationships. I honestly believe that after we adjust to the new policy and settle into the school year, we will experience positive gains in all three areas. Thank you, in advance, for your support and cooperation!

FinalForms: A New System FinalForms: A New System

The first official practice day for fall athletics is Monday, August 11, 2025. Any student wanting to join a sport or activity (band, choir, orchestra) must complete the registration process for the 2025-2026 school year. This process is online as we are switching to a new system called FinalForms (previously PRIVIT). This system will house all your important documents. It is a new process for Central High, but we are extremely excited about this new platform. Attached is some information on FinalForms.

These forms must be completed prior to participating in a sport or activity.

To that end, we are asking the parents/guardians and the students planning to play sports or participate in activities to create accounts in FinalForms and register your student(s). Please see the attached document for links and assistance in registering.
